Training Class Officially Over…
Hey All,
I wanted to ‘advertise’ an event that a couple fellow ODers are running: OctoPhoMo They are the same people who ran JunPhoMo this year. Please take a look at the diary, especially if you liked DePhoMo since apparently that one doesn’t exist any more.
I officially finished my training yesterday, but I still have 3 weeks of "nesting" where we’re on the phones, but have a lot of support, and some class time to discuss what happened on our calls and what areas we may need more practice with to feel comfortable on the phones. Next week we go on the phones. We start Monday, even though it’s a statutory day. The first three days we are paired with someone in the class and together we do 4 hours on the phone (split evenly so each does 2 hours). As one takes calls, the other is listening and helping if the person on the phone gets stuck. So, for the first 2 or 3 days we are only on the phones taking calls for two hours, and the rest of the day we are "training." Then we go on the phones for the whole 4 hours for the rest of next week. The following week we’re on the phones for 6 hours a day, and two hours in the class. The last week we go seven hours on the phone and only one hour debriefing. Then by the time we’re finished that it’s assumed that we can hit the ground running.
My schedule for the next 3 weeks: 2:00pm – 10:30pm =MTWRF= (so, M-F working with Saturday & Sunday off)
After that, my schedule is: 2:00pm – 10:30pm SM==RFY (so, Tuesday & Wednesday I’m not working)
Yesterday we found out who we were going to be paired with for the first 3 days. Apparently the person who I was paired with didn’t particularly like the fact that she was paired with me. When I saw we were paired together I said, "Oh [name], it looks like we’re paired together."
She snidely replied, "Lucky me."
I attempted to talk with her twice while we were cleaning up from our pot luck; once when we weren’t in the classroom, I said "[name], I’d like to talk with you."
She was walking and talking with someone else, and called back to me, "Yep, just a minute," but then took off in the other direction after parting ways with the person with whom she was chatting.
We ended up back in the class, and people were still tidying up, and I was going to ask her to step outside the classroom to talk with me, but as soon as I said her name and went to approach her, she seemed to spring out of her chair, and was talking about some of the stuff still left on the table. I could give her the benefit of the doubt and say that she didn’t hear me, which very well could have been the case, but given her prior statements and actions I’m leaning towards intentional avoidance.
The Teaching Assistant (TA) then gave a general speech to the class about if there were any problems, or if we had any problems with another agent, to first try to work it out with the agent, but if that didn’t work to come to her, or our Trainer. I’m guessing that some mention of this lady’s actions were passed onto the TA. That lady is almost always asking if it’s time to go home yet, asked yet again… but we were discussing other topics. When our TA finally said we could go, she was the first one out the door, so I couldn’t even make a 3rd attempt to talk with her. So, I waited until everyone had left the class and spoke with the TA. I explained the situation as I’ve laid out to you here. She assured me that it would be taken care of and that lady won’t be paired with me anymore come Monday.
I guess I’ll see on Monday exactly what happens.
