Blurred…
Despite having gotten in the hours I needed for class, I’m still going in an tutoring.
Afternoon tutoring yesterday & morning tutoring today didn’t actually get to to tutoring…
It was more of a standing there and listening & learning experience for me (as how doomed my chosen career goal in currently).
Yesterday morning I worked with S on a page of math…This afternoon I worked with G on division.
Yesterday went well…This afternoon…*beats head on desk*
This poor girl…We are working on division…Which is hard enough when you have trouble with multiplication…But I can see her struggling with addition even!
And I don’t think that it’s all that she’s not trying…I think a lot of it is, she just can’t get it. She apologizes profusely for, well, everything. Her pencil lead broke while she was writing a number, and she apologized for it! When she was getting ready to go she said her eyes were hurting, and that she hadn’t slept well because her mother was up late watching movies and the light had been keeping her up.
& the school…*headdesk*
Unless something happens with Michigan’s economy…I’m doomed.
Due to budget issues, the school cut the cook’s assistant, the 2nd office worker, the Way-To-Grow program, the daycare that went with the preschool…& they cut the one "full-time" parapros hours by 11, taking her down to 24 hours a week…All so they wouldn’t have to pay for insurance for her. Thing is, she had offered to give up her insurance if she could keep her hours…& they are going to have to hire someone else to fill in for those 11 hours! Now, she’s going to have to find a second job that can work around the schedule she has with the school (which includes being one of the main coaches, so she has to have game day/nights off).
There is talk that as a ‘back-up’ plan, they might have to come up with a way to cut what would be the equivalent of 3 teacher’s hours.
As it is, many of the teachers are handing two grades at the same time, having to try and teach them their own grade required instructions.
Mrs. Gooding has 4th & 5th graders for Math & English in the mornings…She has time to teach the 4th grade lesson, then the 5th grade lesson…No time to walk around and see if they are getting the lesson…Which yeah, some of them are not. [Although, apparently some of the 4th graders are picking up on the 5th graders math…But it’s that handful of 5th graders that are having trouble, and now, seeing 4th graders doing their work…Can’t be confidence building.]
But, as of right now…There is next to no teaching jobs in Michigan…& This is where I belong. I know that it probably sounds foolish or stubborn of me to say I can’t leave…But, I can’t. I don’t want to uproot the Critter’s from their school (assuming they are still going to have a school by the time I graduate)…Neither one of them is big on change. I rearranged the living room quite a while ago, and Sonja is still complaining about it.
Sonja & Harley have both yelled they want to be home schooled…& if something happens with Alba…I can’t see them surviving in another school. Harley would be kicked out before he even walked in the door…& Sonja…Yeah…I just don’t see it working either.
just remember that home schooling is hard work too. *hugs you* chin up. MUAH

teaching jobs here are far intbetween too.

I hope that something works out for you. Someone I know does pretty well working with home schooled students, but, with having problems with your vehicle, that really isn’t a good option, I guess. 🙁 ♥

ryn: She just…ugh. I hope it’s different when I get there. After all, it is her fault that I have to sit through The Hobbit, when I’d much rather see Anna Karenina. 😛 That lovely lady is Elizabeth Reaser as Esme in the Twilight movies. She makes me jealous with her pretty. ♥

They have started doing mostly split grades here, but I think they do so to try to split up levels, so lower level Grade 5s can get the same lessons as the Grade 4s as review, then get some of the grade 5 stuff scaffolded on. It certainly doesn’t make teaching any easier though. I have a three grade split, but that’s Montessori. Government cutbacks just piss the hell out of me.

There is absolutely no foresight on the part of the government. Why is it such a bizarre concept that if you want to improve your economy, perhaps investing in people would be a good idea. It just takes too long for good education have an effect on the economy, I guess.
