School stuff.
*stares @ homework* O.o Bloody hell…I so can’t focus…Where oh where has my focus gone? HELP!!!
36 days till Spring Break…Which I am happy for, aside from the fact that means I have X amount of time to get Y amount of work done, and that time is coming to an end. *falls over*
Here is how things stand…I believe.
American Lit.: I turned in the first of three papers I need to do. [Tho I wasn’t thrilled with the quality of it, it is at least one less thing. I need to do two more, with two sources outside our text, before the end of the semester. This class is actually rather casual, and in and of itself, isn’t totally stressful…Aside from working in small groups, which I’m not a big fan off…& the ex-prison inmate still creeps me out…Thankfully he’s moved to the other side of the room. I just hope the day does not come that we end up in one of those small groups together.]
No major papers for this class…No major projects for this class…A midterm & a final…Which will be a bit O.o when the time comes…But I’m managing.
I have 19 pages to read for Wednesday…Two stories.
French: I need to find someway to study, someway to get the language in my head. I have workbook to do this weekend.
There is the French speaking city project…Which I need to figure out. These are the guidelines for it:
A short (5-7 min.) presentation on a city/town whose primary language is French. Visual aids are expected. Does not have to have a historical timeline.
One page synopsis is due the day of presentation.
It will be graded on: Creativity, Depth of subject covered, Knowledge of subject, Overall presentation.
I am doing Lausanne (lo’zan)…It is the capital city of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.
Mythology: Aside from the daily struggle when having to deal with it. *sets it on fire* There is a Research Project due towards the end of the semester. Which is a bit confusing in it’s presentation.
There are five ‘ideas’ presented:
1.) Geographical approach: EXP: African myth, Norse myth, American Indian myth…With connections to our studies.
2.) Myth Types approach: Fertility myths, Creation myths, Epic Hero myths, Wisdom Literature…
3.) Academic discipline and person approach: *list of a wide variety of people whom most of I’ve never heard of, and none of hold any appeal to me*
4.) Extended work approach: Pretty much, from what I can tell, involves reading some other massive reading from who knows where…
5.) Other: The host/guest relationship in myth…Mythos of America and what they reveal about us…Myth in modern literature…Etc…
I’m wondering if perhaps there is something I can do with the Underworlds in Mythology…*shrugs* Though I would need to figure out some kind of question (which is the issue I’m having in Linguistics as well).
Linguistics: I have my 3rd Reading Response due Tuesday…I’m suppose to create a ’substantial set of notes’ for three chapters, & come up with two questions about the assigned reading…Which I should quickly do the reading & post something here & Facebook, as we are allowed to look for answers from others.
Then there is the Research Project: Review of Literature
Which is wanting to give me no end of trouble.
We have to do a literary review over something having to do with language and linguistics. BUT…We need some kind of question that is being answered by the things we are to read as sources…I am without a question.
I had thought about doing something with subcultures…But I can’t figure out a question…I’ve had Speech Community or Jargons offered as possible lines of thought…Or Internet Culture…Or Otaku…I’m still without some kind of question to use to begin my search. *beats head on wall*
So that is where I sit with that…
Three Research Projects…& I’m pretty clueless on two of them.
On another subject, sort of…
NMC’s spring magazine is looking for submissions…This semesters theme is kind of a look back on childhood…Looking for ‘once upon a time’ & twisted fairy tales & such things.
There is also a radio station looking for short essay submissions on what it is like, what it means, to live in Northern Michigan…[I actually have something I scribbled out in class that is almost, but not quite done, that I’m considering submitting for this.]
