Start the New Year out good, adopt a soldier
Okay so I haven’t been keeping up with the daily angel counts in the past few weeks, with the holidays n such…. If you are reading this type of entry for the first time, you are probably wondering what I am talking about.
Well here it is…there is this website, where you can adopt a deployed soldier…..send them cards, letters, postcards, carepackages…the carepackages you only have to do one or two a month, and at least one letter/card/postcard a week….real simple, and you’re letting one of the many soldiers who is deployed, fighting this awful war, (that none of us really know what it is like)…..that someone in the states cares about them individually, and that many people acrossed the united states cares about all the soldiers who are deployed and that we all want them to come home
so if you are interested….and you should be! (sorry my opinion comming out) go to http://www.soldiersangels.com and check out what it is all about.
I have been doing this for about 3 years now that the new year is here….and it is one of the most satisfying feelings that I have ever had, knowing that I am bringing a little bit of home to our heros….
I know the economy sucks….but it is possible to still help..if you don’t think you can adopt a soldier fully, there are other ways to help out on the site…just check it out….BUT it is possible to adopt a soldier, even if you have little money…you can ask local businesses for donations toward the carepackages and postage to send them out…I know one angel who has a business who pays monthly for the shipment of the carepackages….
If you don’t think you can afford the items for the care packages, be creative…have a carepackage drive, stand in front of walmart for a few hours and hand out lists of items that are needed for the carepackages….you’d be surprised how many people will add one or even five items to their shopping lists and bring them back to you….
you can also get a group of your friends together and adopt a soldier…so if you have five friends, that is 5 letters a week that one lucky soldier would get….plus the cost of the carepackages would be very little for one individual!
this is a great project for students to do as well…Teachers, get your students involved! They need to know that doing something for others can give you the feeling of goodwill and accomplishment…the whole idea of paying it forward, teaching this at a young age, just might keep it going into their adulthood….
I do this with my 4 year old daughter and my 6 year old niece…even my 1 year old niece gets to put one thing in the cart for the soldiers, which it normally ends up being something silly….lol last time she picked out a pack of binkies….which we didn’t really send, but at least she’s getting a vague idea of what we are doing….my daughter and my older niece write them letters so our 3 soldiers get at least 3 letters/cards/postcards a week….
okay so my rant about this good cause is over…for now…I am going to start the daily angel count entries again…right now the number of soldiers who are waiting to be adopted is up to 891…..that is a lot of soldiers who would like a bit of home sent to them…as a friend of mine would say JUST DO IT NOW! http://www.soldiersangels.com
THanks! Happy New Year to you too. I am SOOOOOO sick right now! Had a little much to drink last night!
