Santa Fe experiences…

Santa Fe is a quirky little city.  Artists and eccentrics are drawn there, as is immediately apparent at any gathering.  It’s definitely not a place we’d want to live, but it’s definitely a place worth a second visit.

As to our culinary experiences, Friday night was fantastic.  I’m not a huge fan of Mexican, Southwest or Tex-Mex cuisine, but our experience at Epazote was quite enjoyable and unexpected.

I’ve been to Mexico a few times, and never experienced anything even close to this good.  Saturday was a complete change of gears, with French food being the motif.

Unfortunately, they stumbled on this one.  The hors d’oeuvres were uninspired and the puff pastry shells tasted suspiciously of the frozen store-bought variety.  The first course was actually wonderful, but the chef crashed and burned on the second course.  The caramelized sauce was so cloying it overpowered the dish.  The main course was just OK, nothing to rave about, and the dessert tasted stale.  Even the wines were undistinguished.  Normally we present the chef with a large framed certificate for their efforts, but it was decided to withhold it in this case.

That’s really too bad about the second evening; so disappointing when a chef fumbles. Santa Fe is a beautiful place, which has missed most of the overdevelopement that has plagued Albuquerque.

I love the names of the courses on the Mexican list. Bocadillos! Sopa de Amor! There’s a sensuousness to this repast.

Disappointing food experiences suck. Did the chef comment?

I don’t do a damn bit of homework for her. She just has a hard time getting it, so we discuss it/work on it for hours on-fucking-end.
