Visitors, road-weariness and uncomfortable beds…
I flew to NY last Monday and drove friend AW, my mother-in-law, and AW’s schnauzer Ringo down to NC to visit for the week. Because AW is 88 and needs a walker, I rented a Dodge Caravan. The large sliding doors made it easy to get her into and out of the vehicle, and plenty of space for luggage. I’m not a fan of long-distance driving, but managed to make it in 9 hrs.
It was a week of tours, dinners and parties, with a concert rounding out Saturday night. There was a woman who sounded exactly like Patsy Cline, but my favorite performer of the evening was an elderly blues musician who just stole the show. On Sunday I drove them back to NY, stayed overnight in Manhattan, had some meetings there during the day Monday, then flew to Omaha late last night.
Unfortunately, we had scheduled having our hallway floors and stairway sanded and stained last week, so I slept downstairs on one of those inflatable air beds for 2 days. Never again! My back is still in recovery.
Air mattresses are awful. The once I slept on one was quite enough for a lifetime.

I would love to know who the elderly blues musician is

You would have done better putting your bed mattress on the floor.

Here’s hoping the finished floors will be so beautiful they’ll be worth every ache and pain.

By the way, your note had me cracking up so hard I was afraid people would wonder what the heck I was laughing about.

Yes, there are hotels for crisis like these. 🙂
