Rowing (well, being rowed) up the Thames?
We received an invitation this weekend to go to London in June and participate in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. On Sunday 3 June, up to a thousand boats muster on the River Thames in preparation for Her Majesty The Queen to lead the pagent. It will be one of the largest flotillas ever assembled on the river. The Venetians are sending a disdotona with 18 rowers to participate, and Lady Wife and I have been invited by our old friend Silvio to be passengers and represent the old Republic.
As nice as this sounds, we’re of mixed feelings about accepting the invitation. It’s sure to be a three-ring circus for the celebrations that weekend, and mobs of people are just not our thing. But we’re going to see what our friends Alfie & Jan have planned that weekend, and maybe escape to quieter venues with them after the flotilla.
What, and give up riding like a Doge? Not even I would pass on that.

Oh go! You’ll have bragging rights for decades!

At least go for the boat ride–it’s not as if you have to row. Look regal at the madding crowd, then go off somewhere for a sumptuous meal.

RYN: I’m sure those things don’t help.. but you think they *cause* autism?
Warning Comment
RYN: I completely agree with your general point. But in the specific case of ASD, the evidence *is* pointing towards a genetic basis (though other factors probably have a role too). Sibling studies, twin studies etc.. the “it’s the parents’ fault” hypothesis doesn’t quite hold up.

What a special event! I would certainly go, since it’s one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Wow!

That would be so much fun! I was in Edinburgh back in 1977 when the Queen was in for her 25 year celebration. It seemed every time we turned around that day she was passing in a motorcade. She had changed outfits between the morning and afternoon sightings!
