Fan girl

Somewhere, over the river Styx…

I took Hubby to a Styx concert. Actually, there were 4 of us altogether; Tammy, the original Styx fan girl(Susan) and the 2 of us. Susan has been to over 50 Styx concerts and that’s only since the band reformed in 1999, not in “the before time” which is when Hubby saw them. Hubby has 2 all-time favorite bands: Styx and Supertramp, and since we can never see one of them, we went to see Styx. I figured it was a good surprise for him since we have been happily married for 5 months!

This whole plan hatched about 3 months ago while having lunch with Tammy and Susan. Susan is on a VIP list for early purchase of Styx tickets and said she was buying tickets for her and Tammy. A light bulb went on for me and I asked if she would include two more for Hubby and me since it was our 5 month anniversary on that date. Sure thing and as soon as she got the tickets, the plan was set.

We were 5th row center and it was great! Unfortunately, I had to suffer through Ted Nugent (gagging sounds here) and then REO Speedwagon after Styx. REO has gotten OLD !! OK, so I’m no spring chicken but the lead singer is really showing his age and in his voice too. Ted is just as offensive as usual and luckily the sound wasn’t mixed well enough so we really didn’t make out the vocals very well, just loud blarring guitars. We didn’t hear much of his language thank goodnes! I just finished watching an interview on CBS this morning with him and he even had a profane outburst during a national interview! Lucky for them, it was recorded and they could bleep him!

Going to the concert was well worth watching Hubby’s face, it was pure enjoyment! He had only seen them once and that was in CA for their Paradise Theater tour, in the “before” time.  We loved it and will always remember what a good time we had. We even have the t-shirts to prove it! LOL!  Funny thing was, when the band first came out, Tommy Shaw spotted Susan in the audience and pointed and waved to her! She has gotten many great photos of the group over her many times to see them and even has had her photos used to publicity stuff and on their website. One of her photos was even on the “Behind the Music” tv show! She has gotten VIP passes for backstage tours and knows their road managers. One of them waved at her while he was photographing them on stage. Susan isn’t a groupie type, she’s just an average middle aged mom and wife who just really loves Styx.  I can’t wait to see her pics from last night and will share some when she emails them.

On the health scene for me, I got to see my oncologist yesterday after having a CT scan of my neck earlier this week. She said no signs of lymphatic cancer so no signs of breast cancer having metastasized. She listened carefully as I described what was going on and what the other “health care professionals” had tried and failed so miserably to do. She agrees that it’s not my sinuses or sleep apnea. She thought it was worth looking into my throat and thyroid and immediately ordered a ultrasound of my thyroid. She also got me scheduled to see yet another ENT, even in the same office as the last one but this one she knows and trusts. They actually got me in to see him a week from today! No waiting months to see a specialist when the oncology office schedules appointments! I also went straight over to their radiology dept and got the ultrasound done. Unfortunately, there were spots on my thyroid that the tech showed me as she measured and documented them. They showed up as black spots which can mean any one of a few things: infection, fluid, cysts, or cancer. Unfortunately too, when the spots appear black instead of white, there’s a higher chance that it’s cancer. The new ENT may want to do more ultrasound and then a fine needle biopsy, depending on what he thinks after he hears my saga. I’m closer to knowing what is really going on with my throat even though the answer may be a bit scary. My chances of having thyroid cancer are increased since I received radiation treatment over part of my neck but I’m really hoping it’s nothing that dramatic and it’s just the benign answer.

I’m still floating on a cloud today, ears are buzzing slightly, from the sights and sounds of last night and how happy Hubby is today! Just remember “When I think of Lorelei my head turns all around
As gentle as a butterfly she moves without a sound

A very good night by the sounds if it. The throat deal sounds scary, there are many benign options though *hugs* X

Styx–an all time favorite of mine too! Keeping my fingers crossed for a minor benign cyst for you…

Me too! I love concerts. Thanks a lot for your very sweet note. U r always in my prayers. Take care and be always well.

I saw Styx once with Blue Oyster Cult and the Cars, in 1978. I really enjoyed it. Glad you were able to go. So many of the old rockers are getting up there in age. RYN: Grieving for Dummies, wasn’t one of the worst titles. There was one titled something similar to: I’m a Bitch So Get Over It, or something like that. Really. People want to emulate bitches?
