keeping a good girl down
Tara is home and the hardest part is keeping her quiet for a whole week! After such a traumatic event and given some other excitement could trigger another seizure, I have to keep her near me for a week and make sure she’s quiet. She is the ultimate Golden Retriever and bounces off the walls when she gets excited. She loves to go for walks, plays fetch endlessly and loves to rearrange our bedding with puppy spins on it when she gets all excited about Hubby coming home or when Buddy gets her going. Keeping her down for a week will be a challenge!
The vet talked to us on our exit interview about not just keeping her quiet but how we need to journal her seizures and what steps they can take medically if they get out of control. More of these frelling things!!???? I think not! Actually, Hubby is a research biologist and he talked to some of the vets at work yesterday. One in particular worked in emergency medicine and said that Goldens of her age are prone to have a seizure, usually just one, and then they’re normal again. Don’t know what caused the misfire in her brain but hopefully what Hubby heard yesterday is true and this won’t repeat.
beautiful Tara just last week after the groomers.
Hubby and I talked last night about how hard it will be for him when we do lose Tara. She has been his constant companion for 10 years, since she was 6 weeks old and he even won her in his last divorce since his ex is so irresponsible. In the frenzy of her seizure the other night he made comments about how he can’t lose her, at least not that way. I agree, to have your beloved pet die in your arms in the midst of a huge seizure would be very traumatic. I just don’t know what we’ll do when it’s her time. She is 10 now but the breeders he got her from said their dogs live a long life, usually at least 12-13 years. Yep, we have her for awhile more before we really have to deal with this issue. I’m just grateful to have her home again and in good spirits. Now I just have to figure out how to keep her quiet for the next week!!!

I like that in this picture her tail is a blur… constant wagging in a dog is a good thing.. Glad she is back home again…

She’s a beautiful dog. It is so hard when they start getting older; been there & done it more than I care to remember.
