Writing goals and still a streak of bad luck

Throughout the day I have been working on how to try and write more.  I came to the conclusion that if I write after my evening workout, which gives me time to cool down and put fingers to keyboard.

Over this past year, I have managed to beat my sugar addiction.  Along with that came the unexpected; but not surprising, weight loss.  Now, none of my 48 watches fit me.  Rather than pay hundreds of dollars to get them all resized, I ordered a kit and decided to do it myself.  The package came today.

At this point, one would have learned when making impulse buys, to make sure it’s what you what, but more importantly has everything you need.

I was able to fix most of my watches.  I’m sure every dead watch maker rolled over in their grave as I was pounding the pins back into place with a construction hammer in lieu of a proper jewellers mallet.

The two I couldn’t alter is because the tools didn’t come with the kit. I can’t put the back plate back on one of my watches because it’s an older press on piece and no tool I have does that.  I also, couldn’t fix my gorgeous Versace; which is one of my favourites, because I still can’t figure out how to adjust the clasp.  The pin wouldn’t pop out.

So that was one of two disappointments of the day.  I miss playing the 360 Kinect games, and since I’m home pretty much all day can use the exercise and distraction, Yesterday, my Xbox one Kinect;  games arrived, but not the Kinect. So I had six games I couldn’t play.

I was so excited when it arrived only to find out that I needed an adapter for the Xbox one S.  Nowhere was that made clear while ordering it.  I hoped on all the electronic store websites – SOLD OUT! There wasn’t one available.  After breaking down, and checking eBay – they were selling for a 25 to 400 per cent increase.  I have it on order but no idea when it will come.

But wait, there’s more… Since I couldn’t play any of the six games I got, I got Subnautica.  I played the game preview and loved it.  Seconds after ordering it, I got a message saying my bank account was overdrawn by a minimal amount.  Thankfully I have an emergency fund and was able to transfer some money.  That’s not what was upsetting; it’s that it happened at all.

I’ve been having a lot of problems lately.  In the past few months I have:

Broken three pairs of glasses, haven’t broken a pair since I started wearing them in 2013;
Cut myself cooking more times that I have since I started cooking as a kid, including my time studying culinary arts;
I’m spilling and dropping things constantly, again more than doubling an entire lifetime worth;
I lost my phone and had to replace it; I almost never leave my house because Medhia needs tending to every hour;
No idea where my keys are, see above point;

There are more things, but that’s a pretty good list.

A little bit of thankfulness happened.  My Duck Cover came today.  Purolator and I don’t seem to get along.

In an average week, I get five packages.  Yesterday when I had to call because the delivery person waited less than 15 seconds before leaving, and me opening the door just as the van was pulling away.

So my first call on Monday was to have it redelivered for Tuesday.

So when I called yesterday, and they had made a mistake, and my package was being returned to the manufacturer instead of being delivered I lost it.

I pointed out that I had on video; my doorbell records every ring and motion, of the driver waiting less than 15 seconds before leaving, disregarding the note I have up asked for people to wait for a minute as I’m home and maybe feeding my dying cat, thus need a few extra seconds to answer the door. I explained how working in PR I have no problem blowing up their social media.

Incidentally, I also found out that of the three deliveries Purolator has made since January 2017, required seven contacts to solve an issue.  All the other delivery companies I have had no problems.

My new project is going frustratingly along.  I remember why I retired when I did.  Consulting can be frustrating.  Almost every engineer; including my father, have very little business sense.

About two weeks ago, Medhia started eating wheatgrass.  Since then, her swelling has gone down, her appetite has increased, and she is way more active, even killing socks again.

Sadly, I know she will start to slide back and get worse but hopefully not for a long time.

Well, it’s a little earlier than my cutoff time of 11 p.m., but I’m going to end it here for tonight.

I’m so gald OD’s back.  Thanks DM!

I’m impressed that you own 48 watches.

You’re welcome! I’ve been thinking I want one of those fancy video doorbell thingys, you’ve almost convinced me 🙂

The doorbell is outstanding. If my phone wasn’t so slow after the latest upgrade, it’s very quick to load and see who’s at your door. It even allows you to talk with them without answering the door. It stores all movement and people who come to your door on a server incase you need the footage after a robbery. It’s also a very cheap security system and piece of mind.

@axalotal nice!

I have an Xbox One and Kinect, but have honestly never used it – Kinect that is. I know my kid is getting a Just Dance game for it for Christmas, what other game would you suggest that is good for people our age?

November 16, 2017

I’m basing this off the 360. Just dance is fun. Dance central is slightly better only because it has actual routines rather than just flail around.

It depends on what you like.

Sports Rivals is fun if you like family games like bowling. The reality is there aren’t many games for the xbox one that aren’t dancing or exercise.

The kung fu one looks interesting.

Sadly, there aren’t many games since the majority of people don’t like it, a most people who use Kinect actually use it for things other than games.

Reading other folks journal entries (unless very sad ones) almost always reveal a pearl of wisdom or a good laugh. You get the “smile of the day award” *patent pending, with the line: I’m sure every dead watch maker rolled over in their grave

Thank you so much for the honour. I truly couldn’t have won without people like you.

Two questions:

Am I the first winner;More importantly, when do I get my trophy?

November 17, 2017

@axalotal Yes, your are indeed the first winner of something that I now hope to continue. Sadly, being a brand new endeavor the casting department can’t decide on the metal to be used and the mold has yet to be poured. Please stand by.

November 17, 2017

@petersshadow I’ll be waiting by my mailbox.

As for the metal, how about uranium. It would be a nice warm glow to light up a dark room. Plus living in Canada, if the power goes out it can also be used to cook food.

I like how you share and write. It -you-hold/s my attention. I would like to ask if you would add me as a friend. ? I like friends on OD, and so thankful we are back home. I will say some prayers for your kitty. I love kitties, but, have to wait, as I am on a waiting list, for a senior apartment, and some take pets, and some don’t. Thank you.
