50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind: Marc and Angel Hack Life.
Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Now this I find sort of funny. I have always been a screw up, and have been the first to admit so. I tired to do things right as a child, but every single time I was met with still being treated as a failure. Nothing was ever good enough…
But it is much saner in life to try to do the right things – also they are pretty simple it seems to me.
As a child I was in Girl Scouts. I loved the Scouting program, and it was one of the few places where I was treated with any respect as a child. Like a ‘good scout’ I memorized the Girl Scout Promise & Law (which as since been changed) but it seems a pretty good standard to live by.
I will do my best
– to be honest
– to be fair
– to help where I am needed
– to be cheerful ( still hard for the gothy girl)
– to be friendly and considerate
– to be a sister to every Girl Scout (all people)
– to respect authority (does not mean having to agree – EVER, but I can be respectful of others
– to use resources wisely
– to protect and improve the world around me
– to show respect for myself and others through my words and actions
It seems silly in a way, but I memorized this when I was in second grade and I still live by this. To my it is just right to try to do these things – to be a kind, caring person, to help others, to be respectful of others, the world, and of myself.
The world is not black and white; the concepts of right and wrong are not necessarily as polar as people make them out to be. There are so many gray area that we can really do is our best.
