NoJoMo 12 – Fund rasising

Today Honor Flight put on a Veteran’s Day Shoot; a competition at a local gun club. The whole point was to raise money for Honor Flight to keep the program going. Being ambitions, we’re planning two trips for the spring – and now my mother wants to combine those two trips, which would mean planning a trip for nearly 80 people….the logistics along scare the living crap out of me.

But today – today was a good day. A few people came out, some from as far away as Eugene, to support the program. There was over 20 shooters, and the local chapter of the Young Marines were there and assisted with a flag ceremony to start the shoot and who worked a ‘pullers’ for the competition. I got to stand at a booth and manage raffles – a bunch of local businesses and people donated items to raffle off. We probably had about $400 worth of items donated – all from small, independently owned business. Which again illustrates the up-hill battle we’ve fought.

Again this shows that we have a lot more individual people who are willing to do what they can than big businesses. Even those headquartered in our state have done everything they can to ignore us or blow us off. But it is individual people, small business who are struggling who are the first to give, who are the first to help.

Hopefully that will be enough to keep this going.
