Question Three

50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind: Marc and Angel Hack Life.

If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?

In my own life I have been working on this. There are very few things that I like which I do not do currently, which is actually quite nice. The only think that i I like but have been restricted on is travel. Money and time are an issue, as well as companionship. Traveling is not very fun alone. But my desire is fulfilled with Honor Flight – AND we are planning our first trip of 2011 for April 🙂

I am also quite lucky, there are very few things in my lief that I do that I don’t like. The only one really is the concessions bullshit at school, and soon to be the Prom planning. I dislike both, but this year I have to – and I will swallow the annoyance because the important part is that the Prom is for the kids, and as crazy as they can make me this is for them and they look forward to it….

So I will do something that I do not like because it will accomplish joy for people I care about.

Now that the fluff is said, I think the reason so many people do things that they do not like is they are easy and safe. There is little to no risk involved, and since childhood we are imbibed with the fear of failure. We are taught that things not going as we want is a travesty to be avoided, and that tends to hold many people back from what they want to do in life.

Then there is that fear nagging at the back of one’s mind; fear of failure, fear of embarrassment, fear of death waiting at the end, fear of the unknown. So much in life is driven by fear of something.

Leaving the fear behind and just living sounds easy enough, but it is a difficult process, but it is possible.
