Heat & News

Ah the joy of summer. It’s sunny and hot, and my AC unit broke Saturday. The rental company we go through is not open on the weekends, and keeps odd business hours….

Sunday, we ended up living in a greenhouse. The way this place is designed it’s more of a hot-box, and it is miserable.

Monday I called as soon as the office opened. I got a basic answer “We’ll call the maintenance department, and they will call the company we contract through. They will call you back.” This was 9am. Did not hear from them at all. Had my phone with me all day, made sure the ringer was turned up loud and the vibrate was on. Nothing. It got up over 90, and it was 80 in my house. I tried to keep it cool, but I ended up just this side of having heat exhaustion again. The heat made Boo sick, and she could not keep water down. Yeah, yesterday sucked.

Today, I called them again at 9am, and this time “We tried to call you, but no one picked up.” Yeah – for some reason I don’t really believe them. I got the number for the other company they contract through and made an appointment – earliest time is for tomorrow. Right now it’s 80 outside of my house, but I am managing to keep the house around 74 – I can’t get sick again and I need to make sure Boo is okay. She’s so tiny, it scares me when she is sick.

AND I just got a phone call. The local news station KDRV 12 is airing segments tonight and tomorrow on Honor Flight. They are suppose to be 5 minutes long which is really long for a news segment. And I was just warned that I was in one of them – Crap. I was tired and sick and trying not to cry, and I don’t even remember what I said. I hope that was just a joke. Besides, the focus should be on the Vets.

My problem, I don’t have cable – Boy didn’t want to pay for it anymore, so I can’t watch the segments. Damn it. I have to hope they link their top stories on their web page…….

I have a very difficult time taking maintenance departments at their word.
