Post a song from the first album you ever owned. ~ Candle on the Water from Pete’s Dragon
Before CDs and MP3s and quite possibly before my family even owed a computer, I had a small album collection and a little Smurf record player to listen to them. Yes, it really was a Smurf record player. Among those albums was the soundtrack to the Disney movie, Pete’s Dragon. I remember those songs even though the album has been long since lost. A few years ago, I was playing piano for a Disney review at a local theater. The director found out I knew this song and pressed me into singing it. Even as a little girl I loved this song. The loyalty and love that one person possesses for another. I always wanted to be that person for my friends, their candle on the water.
Post a song that most inspires you. ~ Defying Gravity from Wicked
I went through a lot after high school. Betrayals, broken hearts, depression, suicide attempts, death. Everything I thought I was supposed to be, everything people told me I was supposed to be seemed so out of reach, so unreal. I did not know what I was supposed to do, and no one seemed to have any answers for me. Even when I finally left for school I had some opposition. What would I ever make of myself really? This became somewhat of a war cry for me, especially towards the end. If you care to find me, look toward the western sky. As someone told me lately, “Ev’ryone deserves the chance to fly!” I was going west to school and I was determined to fly. Last year this time I made the decision to go further west and return to the place that haunts my dreams, the first place I went to college. Even more people told me this was a fool’s errand, told me the career I sought was ridiculous. Even those who did not doubt me were concerned about my returning to this place. It has never been easy and it continues to be challenging. But I’m still determined. And this song just reminds me of my determination.
