I’ve never felt so much at home
I love where I live. It can be so boring and slow sometimes, but I still love it. I love watching the colors change in the fall and seeing the entire valley in a different way. I love how we actually have FOUR different seasons. I love the lay of the land, how the roads are rarely straight or flat. I love the worn hills and the trees that line the river. I how there are train tracks on both sides of the river and both are frequently occupied. I love the way my road winds around my elementary school. I love going to the bar and sitting with guys who remember Route 9 being a regular road, not the busy highway of today. I love the history and stories imbedded in the buildings and even the land itself. I love how there are sixteen different ways of getting from point A to point B, not just the same route. My roots have been laid down here in the Hudson Valley.
This place holds memories both dear and horrifying for me. Sometimes I can’t escape the past. Rare are the places I don’t have some connection or memory with. Rare are the people who have no distorted misconceptions about me or my family.
This is the suburbs and the tight-knit inner families guard their secrets well. This is the suburbs where midnight is late and the bars close before dawn. This is the suburbs, quiet and seemingly peaceful. This is the suburbs, where tragedy strikes hard. This is the suburbs, and yes, it is boring and uneventful.
But this is my home. My roots are laid down here. I will leave this place behind and travel the world. But there is something very dear, very annoying, very special about this place. This is my home.
I woke up in New York City from my sleep behind the wheel
Caught a train to Poughkeepsie and time stood still
She wrote me a letter from san diego to qualify her luck
These flights connect through Arizona but I think I’ll stay stuck
So here I am, here I am
Well I woke up in a car
I traced away the fog
So I could see the mississippi on her knees
I’ve never been so lost
I’ve never felt so much at home
Please write my folks and throw away my keys
I woke up in a car
I met a girl who kept tattoos for homes that she had loved
If I were her I’d paint my body until all my skin was gone
She wrote me a letter as we passed through Rockford
She said she won’t forget
Maybe I do, maybe I don’t but I know I haven’t yet
So here I am, here I am
Well I woke up in a car
I traced away the fog
So I could see the mississippi on her knees
I’ve never been so lost
I’ve never felt so much at home
Please write my folks and throw away my keys
I woke up in a car
And maybe I could live forever if not ever I had known
that you’d be waiting here whenever I am all alone
but here I am
well I woke up in a car
I traced away the fog
So I could see the mississippi on her knees
I’ve never been so lost
I’ve never felt so much at home
Please write my folks and throw away my keys
Well I woke up in a car
I traced away the fog
So I could see the mississippi on her knees
I’ve never been so lost
I’ve never felt so much at home
Please write my folks and throw away my keys
I woke up in a car
I Woke Up in a Car ~ Something Corporate
I saw this on the main page and wondered “is she quoting Something Corporate?” so I came along to check and I loved this entry. Then I scrolled back a couple entries and saw all of your Say Anything quotes and got even more excited because they are an incredible band that far too few people know. 🙂
