Interesting questions posed to me
Yeah I’m on a survey and questionaire kick. Life is kinda boring right now and I don’t feel like writing about it all.
1) Is Abortion Wrong?
I’m not in favor of abortions. They are dangerous and can permanently hurt you. I see them as a solution to a consequence of having sex. There are risks when you have sex without protection. You have to accept the consequences of taking that risk. Doesn’t mean you have to raise the kid, but there are other ways than abortion.
2) Is Birth Control Wrong? No, it’s being responsible for taking that risk.
3) Do Animals Have Rights? Yes I think they do.
4) Is Drinking Alcohol Wrong? No, but abusing alcohol is. Too many kids who don’t want to drink are often pressured into drinking. Not nessecarily to get drunk, but just to be drinking. So to those people who drink, don’t judge other people who choose not to drink if you don’t want them to judge you for drinking.
5) Is Having a Tattoo Wrong? No, I think its more of a personal expression.
6) Is Having a Body Piercing Wrong? No.
7) Is Celebrating Somebodys Birthday Wrong? I don’t think so, but you have to respect what that person wants. If they don’t want to celebrate, then respect that.
8) Is Homosexuality/Bisexuality Wrong? I believe that it is, but I’m not going to ignore and discriminate against someone who thinks it’s ok. For me, its the whole Tab A fits in Slot A idea. Two Tab A’s or two Tab B’s just don’t make biological sense.
9) Is the Death Penalty Wrong? Honestly, I don’t know how I feel about that. I wouldn’t want to play God with someone else’s life, but they have already done that if they are on death row.
10) Is it Ever Okay to Tell a Lie? My moral side says never, but I’ve lied and I’ll probably do it again if I had to. I try to err more on the side of giving a politician’s answer, which is to talk but say nothing, or giving the gentle truth. I mean if my girlfriend asks if she looks hot in something and she really doesn’t, I’ll give one of two answers. “No, but try this instead…” Offering advice rather than being a downer always helps. Or else I’ll try and find another adjective that fits her. “You look nice, but not like yourself.”
11) Is Corporal Punishment for Criminals Wrong? I don’t think so, but there has to be a limit or checks and balance system. Guards shouldn’t be allowed to beat criminals without reason. It needs to be PUNISHMENT, not take out our anger. And I think the criminal should know why he’s being punished.
12) Is Spanking Children Wrong? Nope, I was. Just as long as the kid understands why and that their parents still love them. Beating your kids senseless is wrong, smacking their bottoms once for talking back I believe is ok.
13) Should Corporal Punishment be Allowed in Schools? No. Teachers are sometimes mean and cruel. They are not the parents, even with loco parentis or whatever it is. They don’t love the kids like the parents do.
14) Is it Wrong to Skip Church Occasionally if You Dont Feel Like Going? No.
15) Should Christians Teach Their Children About Santa Claus? I was never told he did exist, so I was never told he didn’t exist. My grandmother used to send me presents from him. But I don’t remember that moment of finding out there was no Santa. My parents never used the “Be good or Santa won’t bring presents” line on me. But I don’t see any problem with anyone, Christians or not, teaching their kids about Santa. There is actually a Christian story about a kid named Nick who gave presents to his sisters because he saw Jesus born or something like that. But it’s a good transition from Santa to Christianity.
16) Should People Read/Study The Bible Regularly? There is absolutly nothing wrong with people who read or study often. It is what they believe and what helps them. But forcing others to do the same isn’t right. Freedom of religion, one of the major rights in the Consitution. Practice as you want without discrimination.
17) Is Female Church Leadership Always Wrong? No, I don’t think so.
18) Should Non-Traditional Music Be Allowed in Church? There are some amazing contemporary groups out there that get the same message across as the old hymns do. Its a great way to reach kids who feel like the old folks don’t know what its like to be a Christian in today’s world. There are Christian rappers, R&B, pop, punk, rock, and most everything else. And allowed in church? There’s nothing wrong with it. If that’s what the congregation wants. But you have to respect the older generations as much as the younger.
19) Is The Theory of Evolution Wrong? I don’t know. I wasn’t there. Science is finding more and more rational explanations to the miracles in the Bible. But to me, the simple setting and rising of the sun, or the intricate design of the human body is a miracle enough. God may have used evolution as the engine for the creation of the universe. I don’t buy the “water formed living creatures” idea. Sorry but no glass of water has ever turned into a creature. And for you literal types, I’m being very basic. But it does come down to the fact that I wasn’t there and I don’t know.
20) Which would you rather know: when you were going to die, how, or where? I’m not really sure. I don’t know that I would want to know. But if I HAD to choose, probably when. If I knew I was going to die next week, I’d do and say a lot of things that I am otherwise holding back and saving for the future.
21) If you could have a super power which one would you want? Probably to freeze time. Sometimes I just really need a moment for everyone to shut up and let me clear my head. Or else to get a few more moments of sleep. It would be also cool to be able to walk away from either someone I couldn’t get away from otherwise or escape from an attacker.
22) If smoking didnÂ’t cause any illness or death, would you quit/start? Well, I do smoke and I’m half trying to quit cause I do know that its killing me. So if it didn’t kill me, I wouldn’t stop smoking.
23) Which would you prefer: enlightenment, eternal salvation, or ecstasy? Probably eternal salvation. I don’t know what happens when I die. But it would be nice if I didn’t just blink out or end up in hell.
24) What would be your weapon of choice in a battle to the death? Umm, well Excaliber and the sheath. The legends say that Exaliber never loses a battle and the sheath keeps you from being wounded.
25) Which animal would you rather be bitten by: spider, cat, or mosquito? Probably mosquito, I have been plently of times. Spider bits are really scary and painful. And I half to imagine that cats can do some serious damage. Mosquito bites itch for a few days then disappear. Just as long as the mosquito doesn’t have West Nile or something.
26) Is it easier to hurt yourself or someone else? Its much easier to hurt yourself. Cause only you know what will really destroy you.
27) Who would you rather have a conversation with Jesus Christ or Satan? Well I think Satan might be more amusing, but I think he’s also a liar who twists everything. I wouldn’t really learn much. I don’t think Jesus would lie and I would like to know if he’s the straight-laced, boring old-fashioned guy from Bible times,
Hi Rory, RYN: So far, I’ve found the autobiography really interesting and I think that it’ll only get more so, after all I’m only up to his University days at the moment. The bad reviews have been mainly written by newspapers that have a clear republican history or by people who were expecting 200 pages on the Lewinski issue. I’m really not interested in that at all…

as you mentioned, the Europeans take their polititions much less seriously then Americans do, in Australia that is even more so the case. We wouldn’t care if our Prime Minister lied to us about an affair, in fact we would expect it. We do care when our leaders lie to us about WMD’s though! Clinton’s book is about policy, of which I agree with Clinton on most of it.

Anyway, I don’t want to debate politics in notes…there isn’t enough space. I’ll e-mail ya and discuss it if you like. I hope that you are happy and smiley, and I think I’ll steal that survey hehe Joel
