Band Ranting

So I was sitting with Kaba and Brendan and Kyle and AJ was sitting behind me. And Russ came into the lounge to see me (I love Russ) and AJ was like he’s from that band Missing September, and I was like yup. He’s one of my boys. I love them. And AJ got all kinda cute mad because I don’t love their band. And I was like I don’t know what you sound like. And so he was like request us on the radio, and I said no cause I can never hear the radio and I never listen to it anyways. And Kyle was getting all pissed because we kept beating him at cards and he thought we were trying to screw him over (its a game for crying out loud!) And so AJ (who was just being funny) was like buy our demo so you can hear us. And it was $2 and I love supporting my friends bands so I did.

Now backtrack for a second – A few weeks ago I had been listening to Matchbook Romance and Kyle was like “ehh I don’t really like them. They are nothing special.” Now I’ve heard him play guitar and he is pretty amazing, and I’m a strong believer in music being a matter of opinion and you can like or dislike who ever you want. Its entertainment and if it doesn’t entertain you why should you like it? Anyway so I told Kyle I liked them and then he was like “Yah well you like Missing September too, so that explains it.” And it kinda pissed me off cause he was implying I didn’t know good music, but whatever – I could care less what he thinks. But he keeps saying crap like that to me. Like he knows what good music is and I don’t and that their band is so amazing and what not. So when AJ told me they had CDs I was like “I’ve known you for how long and you have never told me about your CD yet!” And he just laughed and shrugged. I told him he shouldn’t be mad then cause its his fault I’ve never heard them. I mean Todd may be a little annoying sometimes but at least he pushes the band. He introduces people to the CD and tells them about shows and theband. Seriously he’s like a band pimp! But thats how people get to hear and know about the band, so whatever.

So today I popped in the R.O.I. CD to listen to it. And I know AJ is gonna ask about it tomorrow. And I’m debating wether to be a supporter or a friend. I could tell them they are cool and whatever. But they kinda suck. One thing, which might not really be their fault is that the balance is horrible. You can’t understand the singer at all. The drums and guitar are way too loud in comparison. Now that wouldn’t be so bad, but all the songs consist of 2 or maybe 3 different chords spread over 8 measures and repeated constantly. Never changing, no variation. I mean I can write stuff like that. That’s why I don’t think my stuff is all that good. Cause its not all that inventive. Now maybe his lyrics are the highlight, but you can’t hear them. And its kind of sad to hear such a good guitarist SUCK so badly! I listened to the CD all the way through, but about 10 seconds into each song I was bored and I knew where the song was going. It was so predictable. I actually was expecting and waiting for a change or a variation or ANYTHING. But it didn’t happen. Same 2 chords over and over and over. So sad to say I CAN’T STAND REASONS OF INSANITY!!! And Kyle was just being a total dick the other day so it makes me like them even less.

But oh well Fuel is cool and I got to talk to Eric last night – like actually talk to him on the phone and hear his voice. It was so warm and comforting. I wanted to melt into it. He’s coming home for Thanksgiving and then he’ll be home for Christmas. I’m so glad he got a free ride so he can come home more often. I miss him so much!! But he sounds like he’s having fun out there. My life has so changed since him and CIA. I’m seriously a totally different person than I was before. And I’m not really sure I like it, but I don’t know how to stop.
Anyway – I needed to vent about R.O.I. cause they REALLY SUCK!!!!
