Good Friday!

This is considered a holiday with my company, so I’m home sitting on my butt…getting paid for it.  That part is good, I suppose, but I really don’t like having Fridays off.  I never take them willingly because Mike works and he is home, but asleep.  He stayed up with me until about 10:30 this morning and then he went to bed, I’ll wake him up no earlier than 4, might let him sleep until 5.  I just get bored.  I’d rather not go anywhere because then I just spend $$ and so I’ve been goofing off on Facebook and drinking my coffee.

This week, although short, was incredibly stressful.  Just weird problems, nothing seemed to go right and everybody wanted me to hold their hand through basic issues.  Jeri was even on my nerves Tuesday and that hasn’t happened since we hired her into our department.  Monday, we both worked our butts off getting things done but Tuesday she just wanted to goof around.  I was in a very foul mood, so she was just annoying me since I knew how much work she had to do as well.  I told her I had a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday at 3 so I’d have to leave work about 1.5 hours early.  About 3:00 in the afternoon, she worked up her nerve to ask if she could take off the entire day on Wednesday so she could watch her daughter play the very last high school softball game she’ll have.  I wanted to tell her no so badly, but I knew that wasn’t fair of me.  I told her she could and then she buckled down and got some work done.  I knew Wednesday was going to suck, but I’d rather it suck in peace and quiet than with her yammering away about missing the game.

Wednesday was busy, but it went by really fast.  I left work at 2:30 so I could make it to my doctor in time.  I decided to go ahead and go to a doc over here rather than back to my old one in the other town.  Just convenience more than anything.  I was a bit nervous, of course going in, but the new doctor is really nice and I do like him.  I went off of the suggestion of a close friend of ours and am glad I did.  Mike went to a doc too, but a different one.  He was put on blood pressure meds and had to do the two hour glucose test.  He has another appointment on Monday to go over all of that.  I seriously expect them to put him on a diabetic medication, at least for a while because I know his blood sugar readings have been way too high.  I have to go in on Tuesday morning to get my bloodwork done.  I’ve not had it pulled in over a year specifically for the testing….just when I had that infection and they were checking for my white blood cell count.  Then I go back the following week to get all of my results.

I did get one result back already though.  When I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, my A1C level was over 11.  I know a lot of you don’t know what I mean, but "normal" range is 4.7 to 6.1.  After I was put on medication, my levels were tested again within the first year and I was down to a 5.9.  They tested it again on Wednesday and I’m down to a 5.2!!!!  So excited!  The doctor told me he was going to keep a close eye on it and if it goes down more, he’s taking me off of my medication, at least one of them.  I take a very low dose of Glipizide and I take Januvia.  Januvia is unbelievably expensive, I hate it….but I can’t take the more common Metformin, unfortunately.  So, I do what I have to.  If I’d actually eat the way diabetics are supposed to, I probably would be off of both of them, but I don’t.  I still eat whatever I want, whenever I want.

Thursday at work went much better.  I still had a ton to do and some of it will be taken care of on Monday, but at least I wasn’t ready to gouge somebody’s eyes out.  It was 4:00 well before I was ready for it to be, was still working as people were shutting down around me.  I made the executive decision of allowing jeans even though it wasn’t Friday.  haha  So, we were comfortable all day at least.

Today is my Mom’s 70th birthday.  She is going down to my sisters and they will have cake and ice cream there.  Opie and his little family are going with them so I know they will have a good time.  We’re going down next weekend, I can’t wait!  I am in desperate need of a baby fix.  I’ll remember the camera and get lots of pictures again.  She is growing way too fast.

The weather is beautiful right now, but we have more storms moving in this afternoon…some severe they say.  I’m not looking forward to it at all.  Storms are in the forecast for the next several days.  YUK.

I downloaded the new Free Friday book onto my Nook, called 13 Blue Envelopes.  It looks to be an easy, fast read.  Think I’ll go take it out into the back yard and read for a while so the dogs can soak up some sunshine.  I know we’ll all enjoy that.

Have a great weekend and take care of yourselves!

I’ve been going through all of my books during my de-cluttering. There are so many that I need to read. Maybe I will go out in the sunshine a read too. Enjoy your weekend and have a wonderful Easter!

Is Good Friday not a statutory holiday in the US? Or is Mike’s job considered essential, so he has to work on holidays? Hope you enjoyed the weekend – I see Easter and a birthday were combined in your family, too!

Glad you found a doctor in your area that you like. 🙂

I tried to read in the sun yetserday but you just can’t when kids are talking to you or wanting to play with you. Hope you had an awesome Easter. Happy Birthday MOM! Hope you can get off some of your meds. That would be good AND save you money!

I remember being surprised that Good Friday was not a stat holiday in the U.S. when we went camping in Oregon one Easter weekend. We got up very early and drove like maniacs to get to the campground, thinking it would be full by lunchtime. Nope; the campground was practically empty and stayed that way until late Saturday afternoon. Congratulations on your excellent glucose readings and a very happy birthday to your mom!
