Tuesday!
Couldn’t get in here yesterday, but today seems okay.
Much going on around here, but, really, it’s mostly the same stuff over and over. Party, party, party…
Except for the Gala. Papa and I attended a fund raiser Saturday evening. It was "black tie optional" so of course we went all out. Papa dusted off the ol’ bib and tucker. I got a new blingy top.
The benefit was for the Outdoor Lab Foundation. Outdoor lab is a week at camp in the mountains for ever single 6th grader in the county. A unique learning experience that can (and often does) change young lives and futures. My good friend is on the Foundation board, and was co-chair for the Gala. She was hoping to garner some Big Bucks at this affair, and, though I don’t know the total, I know the auction alone raised a sizable amount. She was just beaming. I’m glad we went, just to watch her enjoy the success.
It’s snowing again. Every Monday night/Tuesday for weeks in a row. We need the moisture. That’s a fact. But golly. We’d be just as happy with rain.
The bombing in Boston and the aftermath kept me pretty much glued to the TV last week. I just can’t get my head around how these people think… Prayers for the injured.
I have purchased curtains for my apartment. Am waiting for the handiman to come by and put up the rods. We don’t seem to have any tools anymore.
Reading: I reread "Thorn Birds." I had forgotten all the details over the years, although I remembered the crux. (No pun intended!) I felt it was worth the time to read it again.
Yesterday I got most of the tax stuff sorted out and packed up. What doesn’t go back to the district coordinator will be stored in our storage locker down stairs. We will be able to use our office space more comfortably. It will be cute when we get the curtains up. I also hung a couple of pictures out in our hallway. Our little space out there kind of tells the world who we are.
We got a different garage. The one we had was on the far end and behind the building and a real tight turn to manipulate into a skinny doorway. The new one is no bigger, but it is right across from the front door and there is more room to turn. Of course, my big ol’ Crown Vic wouldn’t fit in there if you had a mile of straight run at it, but Papa’s car is the one we use most anyhow. I’m giving the Vic to Rusty sometime soon.
Praying for my sister-in-law and her family. They closed up her home last week and put it on the market. She has moved to another state where she is currently living in assisted living, near her three sons and their families.
I’m probably pushing my luck with this entry. Will it post?
Snowing here also and COLD! My porch has ice on it. Sounds like the Gala was a great success and hooray for the new garage. Sounds like things are coming along nicely. Would love to be able to see the new curtains and your black tie attire!

I just love how your new living arrangements have expanded your world. My son was a counselor for the Outdoor school his high school sophmore year, and the rewards for all were so amazing. A valuable opportunity for kids and so worth the investment! Just on the other side of the mountain we are dry as a bone, so I’m happy for the Front Range, after last years fires.

I think that’s great about the garage 🙂 Wish we’d get some snow instead of rain… everywhere is flooded around here.

Good to hear from you. I have so many friends in different states where Ol Man Winter just doesn’t want to hang up his hat. Spring is definitely here in Alabama. All kinds of flowers blooming, cookouts going on, and yards being mowed. Bet you’re glad tax season is OVER!!! Hugs,M

The Thornbirds was one of my favorite books ever. Also loved the miniseries. My oldest daughter was supposed to be Meggie, but we named her Megan and the Meggie never took hold as a nickname. Good luck with the curtains and hope you get warm weather soon!

I remember the television series of “The Thorn Birds”. Oh my goodness, how I fell blindly, unconditionally and truly in love with Ralph de Bricassart, the parish priest, played by Richard Chamberlain. To be honest, he had the worldÂ’s women in a nervous state of stuttering and fluttering, right?! I recently reread “The Touch” by the same author, Colleen McCullough. I think I like “The Thorn Birds” more.

Never heard of a Bib and tucker….. I bet you two looked fantastic.. we had no TV for the last 6 days so missed all the news while in B town… we also had no furniture, no microwave, no chairs, no way to cook, no utensils… got back late Tuesday,Mom fell Wednesday morning and spent all day wednesday at ER. she is fine, but it adds to the emotional drain…

I read Thornbirds many years ago. It was a pretty compelling story. Glad you had an opportunity to don your finery.
