Nanowrimo update: Day 8

I’ve been doing the Nano thing for twelve years, and I can without a shred of doubt that this is the best start I’ve ever had. At of this moment, I’ve written over 27,000 words. I actually passed the halfway mark to 50K yesterday… on day number seven.

Will I be able to keep this pace up? I’m not sure, but that is why there hasn’t been to much activity here on OD. Usually when I’m writing really well, everything else takes a backseat as I try to ride the wave and do as many words as I can before the moment is gone.

This is the polar opposite of what happened last year. My mom died on October 30th last year, and I didn’t start that year’s Nano until almost two weeks in. At the halfway mark, I had less than 10K. Somehow I still managed to make it to 50K that year, but I honestly thought I wasn’t going to make it because of how late I started. At the pace I’m going on now, I could reach 100K before this November is over.

I think one reason I’ve had such a good start is that I picked the right project to do this month. I had been considering a few plot ideas that I had been tossing around over the last year, and I ended up choosing a suspense/Sci-fi project that I had always wanted to try. It’s a cool project, and a plot that doesn’t feel forced. One of many reasons the words are just flying out of my fingers. This project just clicked with me since day one and I’ve been averaging almost four thousand words a day. I don’t think I can keep this pace up forever, but I’m going to try.

When the month is over, I’ll come back resume my OD beta tester duties… but when it’s November, it’s all about the Nano!
