Get it Together, New England!

Day 3

What is this nonsense weather?! It’s supposed to be almost 70 degrees today and it’s NOVEMBER. I’m wearing a t-shirt and all the windows in our apartment are open in the hopes of tempting in a breeze. We have yet to turn the heat on at all this year. To be fair, I’m not sure we’ll need to turn it on when it actually gets cold. Even though we’ve had frost the only time it’s gotten below 68 in our house it’s been because it was in the 40’s outside and I had the windows open. As soon as I closed them it warmed up over 70 inside again. I’d say that’s good news for our winter heating bills, but heat’s included in our rent. So oh well.

I’m happy for the weekend, although I think Alan has to work again. At least I can have a relaxed morning without rushing Pippa off the school. Today was rough with that because Alan had to be at the office at 3:45 so they could drive up to Ft. Drum (about 5 hours away). I don’t even remember why. One of their soldiers graduating from some training or other maybe? I kind of want to go to Ft. Drum next. It’s in upstate New York, so we’d still be pretty close to our families. I’m not sure I’d love that level of snow, but it could be a nice change. And right now I’m still really missing the Army community. I don’t really want to go back west unless it’s to JBLM or possibly Alaska. What I really want is to go to Germany. I feel like most of the people I know from the Army have been to Germany or Korea and I really want that chance. It would mean not seeing virtually any family for 3+ years, but I think the fact that we were seeing the world would more than make up for it.

Pippa told me that they learned about Veteran’s Day in school and she was the first to raise her hand to tell her class what it was about. Somehow it didn’t occur to her to tell them that her dad is in the Army. Silly girl.

Anyway, to quote John Muir, the mountains (of laundry) are calling and I must go.
