Patrick Swayze and Cheap Champagne
“Hold fast to dreams for if dreams die Life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams for if dreams go Life is a barren field frozen in snow.” ~Langston Hughes
So Thursday after cleaning my flat, I put in a movie Santa brought me. It’s the newly released version of The Outsiders with the 22 minutes of footage that was cut from the film. Fabulous does not even begin to describe it. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. They really did stay true to the book, but a lot of things had to be cut out. The things cut out really make it a different movie, a movie that focuses both on the friendship of the boys and the brothers. If you’ve never read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, do it. Then rent the movie, either version. It has a lot of famous stars when they were young Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez, Ralph Macchio, Diane Lane, C. Thomas Howell, and Rob Lowe. Needless to say, that since I am in love with Patrick Swayze, it is a good reason for me to watch.
Well, that made me feel the need to watch more movies. However, I held off until last night. Harvey and I were planning on driving up to the city to the north to go out with some of his friends for dinner and then clubbing afterwards. I haven’t been sleeping really well lately, so when I got home from class, I tried to rest up for an evening out on the town. However, I knew I wasn’t going to be up for clubbing. I called Harvey and asked him if he was going clubbing with everyone later. He intended to, so I told him that I wasn’t really up for it. He understood. I feel bad for punking out on him, but I just wasn’t in the mood to put on a smiling face and go dancing with people I really don’t know.
So I stayed in last night. I ordered wheat pizza, had a bottle of cheap champagne and watched Roadhouse and Back To The Beach. The ultimate in cheesy movies. It will continue as the day wears on. My plans for this afternoon include Dirty Dancing and The Boondock Saints. Do we see a theme, Patrick Swayze?
Angel returns today. Her friend is picking her up from the airport. I was planning on doing it, but her friend wants to do it, so I’m not bothered. Angel told me all about it and I’m cool. As long as someone is there to pick her up at the airport and bring her to the flat, I don’t mind.
So I was sitting in class the other day and something caught my attention. Something that just drives me absolutely nuts. I don’t mind that people wear low-rise jeans, hell, I wear them. However, there are two things that drive me nuts that people need to take into consideration when wearing these jeans. First, if they are too low, I can see your crack and that really isn’t appealing to me. You aren’t a plumber, you are a student, please dress accordingly. The next one is horrible. It looks trashy and is completely tacky. When girls let their thongs show because their pants are cut too low. Some girls think this is cute and it is no big deal. I’m sorry, but I don’t want to see any part of your thong, let alone, the whole T shape of it because you can’t seem to pull up your pants. Have enough self-respect that you don’t have to show off your underwear to get attention.
We are talking in my popular literature class about the top 100 films of all time. I went and looked at a list on line last night to see which films I have and haven’t seen. I hate it when I can see someone’s ass sticking out. Actually, I’m not a big fan of low-rise pants altogether, because a lot of people who wear them (and this is why I don’t wear them) have their belly hanging over the top and weird back fat issues, all being prominently displayed by a too-short t-shirt. Then they bend over (or worse, squat) and their pants slide down and whoops! there’s an ass!

that was my favorite book when i was younger. i’ve read it so many times. (actually, all of her books that i’ve read are great. and if you haven’t read them, you should pick them up sometime!) i haven’t picked up the new version of the movie yet, but plan to replace my old copy with the newer one. i used to know that movie word for word!

ryn: Traffic was just too fragmented for me. Maybe it was the aggravation I felt at going from black and white to sepia to color to blue…I dunno…the story line was okay but I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it again.

Your plans included Dirty Dancing and The Boondock Saints. Talk about variety… 🙂 I am a fan of The Boondock Saints, but not so much Patrick Swayze. LOL. RYN: You called me a tease?? 😉 Nah. I give them what they want in the end.

I think, out of the ones you’ve not seen, I’d recommend ‘My Fair Lady’ and ‘Doctor Strangelove’.
