Jenny’s Decade In Review the 2000s
1.What did you do in the 2000’s that you’d never done before?
2000
Moved out of my hometown of Wichita
Trained with my now retired guide dog Fleming
Got a laptop computer.
Dealt with a bunch of bull crap ignorance in regards to disability rights and guide dogs at community college which nearly did me in.
At same time, made dean’s list and had nearly a straight A average.
Got vocal music schollarshipWas photographer/reporter for school newspaper.
Met and interviewed Bill Kurtis. News reporter who covered the June 8 Tornado in… 1966? That nearly closed Washburn University as well as killing several people. The tornado, not Mr. Kurtis.
2001
Found out the people who call to collect your student loans that should of NOT even been in default can be very nasty, and mean… Verging on abusive.
Got deeply depressed about loans and many the things, At one point even pondered either checking into mental health hospital or…
So called friend prooved he was not.
Learned so called other friends really didn’t think much of what a blind person can do or even, gasp know what is best for their own lives. Epic fail.
Put up with even more nosey parkers at school and at home. Wound up moving away first from nosey neighbors and eventually away from stupid community college. Don’t tell me there is no such thing as a level playing field if you are a disabled student. It’s in the ADA dipshits…
Had to defend Fleming who was getting blamed for distruction, dog poop etc left on campus by pack of loose stray dogs.
Met what I was lead to think was a nice guy on internet. Later turned out to be somewhat of a jerk.
Took the greyhound bus
Went to Chicago to meet above internet boyfriend.
Changed community colleges
Planned on moving to Chicago but got dumped via Email and just got depressed as a result.
September 11th. Not exactly something I “did” but…
2002
Had eye operation to remove cataract. Catcract was much worse than thought and my remaining useful eye was too fragile to do more.
As a result, went to state rehab center in Topeka
<p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 18.0px 'ComicSans MS’; min-height: 25.0px”>
As a result of that, discovered many old friends, Eva, Camille, Shannon who ere now in touch and in Eva’s case one of my best friends.
Met Larry
Got kicked out of rehab because I didn’t like tier stupid condescending dumb Eff rules
Moved into parents basement. I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me…
Went to visit friends Betty and Kim in Topeka
2003
Attended funeral for favorite teacher at state rehab center. He as well as another Anne kind of were on my side when everyone else was not.
Thanks to Katie, Larry asked me out via MSN that same weekend.
Came up here to Olathe to see Larry for first time sense leaving rehab.
Met Kenzie and Autumn
Worked things out with state VR to finish rehab in Colorado.
Took greyhound bus a lot, was shocked when my dad told greyhound people off when trying to make big offing deal about how I can’t bring Fleming on the bus.
Saw shrink. Got meeds. Nothing helped.
Spet a lot of time up here with Larry.
My God Daughter Mariah died at six weeks of age, poor little love…
2004
Went to Denver to attend Colorado Center for the Blind.
Went Skying and snow shooing
Learned to use light rail train and bus system
Learned I loved the light rail train and bus system and went everywhere on it.
Learned to cook on a gril, with fire and everything. Learned I liked this too.
Helped CCB oommate retire her first guide dog
Made lots of friends
Went rock climbing. Learned I did not like it on bit and was vocal about it
Went to Atlanta, Ga to the national convention for the NFB
Visited CNN and the church Martin Luther King preached at
Went whitewater rafting
Eva and I nearly got stuck in a sidewalk fountain. LOL Good thing we got away from it LOL
Went to see Ben Folds live!!!
Lost an ass load of dry entries when some loser hacked opendiary.com and effed everything up. I cryed. It sucked.
Learned I had a major hearing loss.
Tried talking GPS
Put up with draama galore of all sorts. Any place a bunch of blinks gather for an extended amount o time you will find drama.
Learned it snows a hell of a lot in Denver and it sucks to walk or go out in it and is not a good time to use guide dog.
Learned some people are even more messed up mentally than I am, and that’s saying something.
2005
Larry got strange about my coming home. That sucked. Also avoided my phone calls… Fail. He wanted me to stay in Denver and I guess his plan was to just lose contact… I cryed a lot.
Did all sorts of travel class things that were scary.
Had on hell of a monster route party. It was fun seeing everyone happy for me. It felt good to feel like I finally done something right. Felt sad thug because Larry wasn’t there and knew even if he was there he wouldn’t be a cheer leader.
Graduated from CC and moved to Olathe
Started job search
Watched girls at the pool for first time
Hit rock bottom in relationship with Larry. Nearly broke up.
Addressed NFB of Kansas at their national convention about time at CCB
Larry and I signed papers to live where we are now. Had looked at two houses previously
Patched up relationship
2006
Found patching up relationship had a very unpinned end result… Namely on 2 Feb. I learned I was going to have a baby.
Learned morning sickness lasts all day
Went back to Denver to visit Eva and Larry’s sister.
Finale Tod parents. They took it well.
Took birth classes and wondered what the hell I got myself into
On 11 September had Skye. That was honestly one of the most enjoyable times of my life.
On 22 September or there abbots, returned to hospital with heart failure. Didn’t know I could cry for five days straight. That was not fun.
Adjusted to motherhood. Some parts I loved and others? Not so much. Looking back now I see it wasn’t as bad as I felt and would do it over if I could.
2007
Made Thanks Giving dinner for all my family including mom and dad.
2008
<p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 18.0px ‘Comic Sans MS'”>Learned I was having another baby.
Learned being high risk sucks and that high risk pregnancy specialists are not as nice as the midwifes.
Saw cardiologist
Saw lots of doctors. Shocked my arms didn’t just rip off like coupons from all the needle pokes I got.
Got my MacBook
Had my son Benjamin via c section.
Was very happy to find that unlike Skye, who takes after me in temperament and thus didn’t like to wait for anything, Benjamin was a laid back little guy and took to breast feeding. Honestly I had had issues about not being able to do this with Skye. Part of it was she didn’t want to latchh on and a majority of the problem was when I went into hospital with the heart failure Larry had to bottle feed her as they did not want to give her any breast milk I had due to drugs I had to take. Felt like failure, like I let my daughter down.
Learned a C section wasn’t, for me, as bad as I thought. and that yes you do feel something when they are cutting on you. Welll you don’t feel the cutting but it feels like, especially when they are putting you back together, that the doctor and nurses and midwifes and all are riverdancing on your gut. But the hospital has some mighty fine pain killers and it isn’t really bad. The worst thing were the presure leggings I had to wear. Hot and itchy and just aaah. LOL
2009
Learned two toddlers are not as easy as I thought. I bet I also got more grey hairs… LOL
Still find I like some parts of being a mom more than others.
Also learned carma is a bitch. LOL I should of been nicer to my folks. Skye can at times be thee most challenging little person I’ve ever dealt with. She has a mind of her own, can really get in a mood and then turn rig round and be so cute you jst can’t stand it. A lot ilk me. I feel sorry for her.
2. Did you any goals in mind for the 2000s, if so did you reach them? What are your goals for the 2010s?
My goals for the 2000s were thus:
Get through life a day at a time. Have clearly done that.
Graduate college. Did not do that. Oh well college isn’t for everyone.
Winthe powerball. Haven’t done that either, might of helped if I plaed.
Seriously though, find a nice man to spend life with and have a baby by the time I was 30. Had Skye when I was 29.
Get a nice place to live. Still working on that but have been able to find nicer places to live than I started out the decade in.
See Ben Folds live. Did that on 17 July 2004.
Oh yeah. I did meet a nice man. We’ve been together now going on 8 years on 12 Jan. 🙂
My goals for coming decade are to keep on keeping on and hopefully get the girls and the now toddlers through school.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Okay I might leave some out but here we go..
2000
Michelle and Billy had a daughter they gave up for adoption because neither one was at that time ready.
Ex-housemate Hope had a baby son I took care of some of the time.
<p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px
RYN: I don’t mind. It’s hell to go through. Hell. And made more hellacious because most people just don’t get it. My baby had a heartbeat. I saw it. My baby grew. And then she stopped. And I don’t know why. And, worst of all, my body still hasn’t figured it out. My body still thinks it’s pregnant. And I just have to wait until it realizes. And that’s a horrible feeling.
Warning Comment
wow, quite the decade, eh? all the best in the new year 🙂
