Y’all know I work on two websites for charities for free, right?
Well one is aging-services.org and I am so POed at them right now it is not funny.
SO SO SO PO-ed.
The guy who is the chair of the website I will call RR and owns a home health care agency. They had been so good to me – with communication and stuff – until this last year when their communication with me dropped to ZERO.
I sent them emails asking for information on meetings and items for the calendar and I got one email back. So I did the update. They had key leadership move away and I never heard from them who replacements were – no more emails telling me when meetings were or any items for the calendar.
I started stressing over this site in April so I sent them the following email:
Hi RR & D,
I am so sorry I have not been able to keep up with the website. Between my health, Autumn and financial worries I have not had much time for anything voluntary. I have been trying to find some kind of job I can work from home to bring in extra income. There is no way I can work outside the home at this time, if I put Autumn in Daycare, there goes all the money I brought in from working.
I have really been stressing over your site. I have no clue what the calendars are, when meetings are, who contact people are and I have not received any minutes from the March Meeting. I and with no funds coming in from it the stress is not worth it for me. If there is any way you all could work out with the ASN leadership a way to pay me, it would really help me out and you would get a priority 1 level on my list of things that need to be done. If that is not possible, and if you can find someone to take over the site, I will be happy to put everything I have on CD for them.
I am really sorry guys. I feel awful about the lack of attention your site has gotten. I dont know how moms who work outside the home do it. I admire them completely!

I never heard back from them.
On 6/1/05 I had ONE email from a member letting me know that their info was wrong in the printed directory – and I looked on the site and it was wrong there too so I fixed it… and emailed RR to let him know to make sure they changed it for the next print edition of the directory. I replied to the member and I emailed them this email about it:
Dear RR and D,
I received this in my inbox today. I will make the change on the website that she requested, if needed.
I have not heard from you guys in a long time. I hope all is well with you. I really need to discuss some things with you all when you have some time.

Of course I never heard back from RR.
Now on 8/16/05 I received the invoice for the website maintenance that was due on 9/02/05. It is only $45 for the year – but I haven’t the extra money to pay it and wait to be reimbursed. So I forwarded it to RR and added a quick note that said that I just could not pay for it this time.
Yesterday I received another invoice from the host service saying it has not been paid. So I forwarded it to them again and included the following in large letters in RED:
Dear RR & D
This is the second notice for the ASN site. I forwarded you the original on 8/16/05. I cannot afford to pay for this. If you do not pay this bill the website will be discontinued.
Also I had sent you TWO emails regarding the ASN website and my roll as the webmaster that have gone unanswered. One was sent on 4/11/05 and the other was sent on 6/1/05.
I also spoke with my friend Deb at the host company and I told her if they don’t pay it to cancel the site as I don’t have the money. She said ok and she understood my position. If I had asked her to she would have held it open for me for a while until I could get her the money myself. But why should I carry RR’s sorry butt? There has been NO communication from them since before APRIL. NONE.
I am done worrying about the site. IF they don’t care then I don’t care.
I have more going on in my life right now – I don’t need their crap. RR is rich and if he can’t put out the crappy $45 bucks then they deserve the site to be deleted.
I wash my hands of them.

I think washing your hands of them will be a good thing. Send a message to the people that keep sending you the bill explaining the no communication deal and you’re not working for them any longer. Just my 2 cents worth.

I don’t blame you. I got caught up in doing sites for businesses that never replied and I just finally dropped off all the info on cd and walked away. Then I found out that they let all those sites go and didn’t even care that they no longer had them.
