Neurologist appointment yesterday

Well I had my visit with the neurologist yesterday.

He was a bit concerned with the increase in frequency of my migraines. He decided to try me on another epilepsy medicine to help prevent the migraines. It is called Keppra – I have to take 1/4 tablet a day. Yes, I have to break the pill into quarters. We also are revisiting some migraine medicine I had tried right after the accident in the hopes that since it has almost been 5 years since then – they may actually work this time. He has prescribed Imatrex Meltaways. Thank goodness it is not the Imatrex Shots.

On the sleeping pill front – he gave me samples of Restaril 7.5 mg – I am to take two at night – he wrote a script for 15mg pills. I took my first dose of it last night. It did not make me sleepy like Ambien did – or if it did it was so sutle I did not notice. I took them at 8pm. I did not fall asleep asleep until 11pm and I had a hard time waking up. I think next time I take them – I will take them and lay right down and relax and not wait to “feel” sleepy. That may be the ticket to those.

My great news is on their scale I was 211 pounds! WOOT! I was 228 on my last visit! I blew it today though. I had left over pizza for lunch. Well not really a blow – but I definitely need to not eat hardly any bad carbs for the rest of the day.

He really wants me to do Hydro therapy. Unfortunately – insurance will not cover it. I was thinking of getting a Spa if and when we have extra money – we have a place here called Rec Warehouse that has sales about 5 times a year and you can get a nice low end spa for about $700 bucks. I talked to him and he said he could write a script for it when I was ready – insurance would not cover it – but the script would remove the sales tax.

We also talked about disability/SSI, He thinks that I should be able to get it. I need to see Hill & Ponton. The BEST disability attorneys int eh area. He wants me to see them to have them help me fill out the application as there are some tricky questions on it. He said expect to be turned down at least twice because of my age. SO that adventure will be starting soon.

TMI ahead: you were warned: Thanks to the IBS associated with the Fibro – I have bleeding hemorrhoids and guess what – I have to see a proctologist to get them removed. Just what I need is more doctors.

Ok I am done complaining. I am currently floating because of the Kappra. Need to go sit down and rest in the play room so I can keep an eye on my daughter.

Thank you all for your great notes on my last entry. 🙂 I tell everyone I look so young because of the fat… it holds the wrinkels out!

Love you guys. I hope to get caught up on reading faves soon.

*hugs* You are so strong to put up with all of this and not complain. (And everyone is allowed a little complaining once in a while… but I know people who would do the “woe is me” thing every single day.) You are just so great. Gold star for you!

RYN: The other day I would NOT have been able to be the living one! LOL I was quite near falling asleep while talking to my mom, however, after she gave me the keys to her new car to take on my vacation, I woke up surprisingly fast! I LOVED driving that thing! 🙂 I stayed fully awake for the whole 7 hour drive up to PA and we arrived alive! 🙂 YAY!!

oh that sucks! Sorry you are going through the hemroids. I think I am developing those in this pregnancy. And good luck on the migraines. Do let me know about it- as I am a migraine sufferer too.. numbness, eye blocks, stop breathing, etc etc. I went to a neurologist and they did all sorts of tests.. and put me on midrin and some other stuff….but it doesnt work

Wow hon I really hope you are feeling better soon!!

June 21, 2005

Wow! And I thought I had issues … hope everything works out for ya! Just remember to keep your chin up!

Well change your ticker darlin! You’ve lost SEVENTEEN pounds!!!

Damn girl. you didn’t FEEL 15mg of Restoril? Must the the lortab… the might hit the same receptors. I ryn on Enigmatic Sea’s diary and I meant to ask you how long and why you had been on it. I am a certified pharmacy tech and have worked specifically with pain management. So ya got me curious. 😉

RYN – that is a long time to be on one narcotic strength. If your pain meds aren’t working please tell your doctor. People get nervous about these types of medications but don’t. 75% of people do NOT get adequate pain management and much of that is the reluctance of people to use narcotic medications. If you are in pain babe, take care of it. *HUG* It is NATURAL for the need for narcotics

to increase. It is just how they work. *hugs* again.

RYN – I don’t know much abot it off the top of my head because it became popular after I was done in pain mang. but I will read on it at work tomorrow 🙂 Also might talk to one of the pharmacists.

Yay for the weight loss!!!

RYN: well I’ve never actually used a bath bomb before, so I have to wait until I get the ones I ordered! but basically you drop them in a tub full of water and I guess they fizz or foam or something!

I hate insurance issues. But maybe the new meds will help, so don’t sweat it. Great job on the weight loss.

aww… I’m so sorry about the frequent head aches, sweetie. I hope they get better, soon. Yay on the great weight loss!

Yeah, I hate going to the doctors too. It’s never anything serious or anything they can do about it. It’s essentially a waste of time. ~This Castaway

I hope the new meds help. I get migraines once in a while (hormonal). Imatrix didn’t work, but Zomig does for me. My insurace only covers Imatrix, so I just pay for the Zomig. I don’t think it is right that the insurance companies should get to prescribe my meds. Take care

One can take as much as 30mg of Restoril…I have many pts that take that much. It’s still a safe dosage and not an overdose. But since you have them in 7.5 caps I would go with 3 caps first…then 4 (30mg) if 3 doesn’t do it. If 30mg doesn’t do it, tell your Dr. Try “Soma”. It’s an oldie but a goodie. Ambien is so expensive! Although, it DOES work without side effects of grogginess.
