which would be the first song i remember hearing – the father (smelling of whisky) leaning over the bed (cot?) with this by way of a lullaby

the FIRST lp i bought…. on byres road

this would be belfast to me…. happy days long gone

4/ “billy austin”

“they’re MY heroes ‘cos it’s my fvcking song…..” – go on stevie – makes dylan’s “protest” songs look like daniel o donnell…. really

5/ “big science”

lsd has a LOT to answer for…..

6/ “randall knife”

the theme song of the dead dads’ club (official) – membership applications always welcome….

7/ “apassionata”

and going back to the old man: my ONLY real regret was that he never got to see me totally embrace the beethoven – this was my first step along that magnificent highway – see you when we get there, old man….

8/ “i’m not afraid to die”

well – let’s hope i get this played at the grand state funeral that i think is only right & fitting for one of my contribution & stature….. innit?

and….

books: i’d take “the communist manifesto” of marx & engels (the ONLY bible we had in our house, thankyou!) & a “collected works of richard brautigan” if such a thing could be assembled

saving only one record: would have to be….. “madam george” i think – the studio version from “astral weeks”, please

luxury: would have to be enough rioja rosado to see us thru til rescue – everything else i can botch tae gither!**
