day 23
dad,
didn’t get to see you before you left but i guess we parted on good terms at xmas – unfinished business tied up – nothing really left unsaid i suppose. which is good.
it’s been fairly quite hereabouts over recent times. not much to report. sometimes i’ll be driving home late, following the shiny moonlit road – like that night we took that long slow drive back to glasgow – when like a bursting bubble something’ll cross my mind: a daft fitba’ gee gaw (the latest hilarity over at castle greyskull wi the pretendy rankers) or the latest evil shennanigans of the criminal uber class (errr…. the bankers and the reckless gamblers screwed the country so let’s make the poor and the public servants pay the price – yeah…. that’ll do it!)
you couldn’t make it up, eh?
and i’m thinking, oh i must tell paw about that….. and after it crosses my mind, like a sharp razor, the thought goes and i drive on…. into the endless dark of an eternal night.
the widow twankey is all packed. she’s coming to lanzarote with us next week. she’s still floating in her own choppy ocean. head above the waves, somehow? looking out from these high cliffs on the ragged coast i can just make out the red and green navigation lights ploughing ahead, into the great unknown….
we’ll all raise a silent glass to you, in foreign. and reminisce some, over the scrabble board or crossword. we’ll probably have a good old laff….
i don’t know if i’ll ever really understand but i guess you should know i’m kinda ok now…. and i don’t feel angry anymore.
you do what you have to do….. like kevin mcdermott sang!
i’m going to move on now. from this place where i find my tired old bones…. from where we’ve got to…. let me say “thanks!” again….
thanks for everything, one more time….
i miss you still
all my love
yer wee boy
DIMITRI xx
“see you when we get there, wee man!”
and
day XXIV

oh, yeah….. that’s right – MY WIFE!!”
g’night

You’ve got a secret sentimental streak, don’t you? We all do, I guess. I’m just picturing that last bit, in particular, contrasted with a huge Socialist standing in frothing rage as Celtic takes on the Rangers, a huge “GOOOOOWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN YE BUGGERS!” (or something less printable) bursting forth. -Philo
