Trip to see the NYC Falls
Dear Diary,
I am still sad about my son but I am trying to live each day and not let it get me down so much. I do miss him a lot.
Yesterday me and my good friend went to NYC to see the falls. We took the train then a cab. We bought a ticket to take a tour boat down the Hudson to see the four locations where the falls are. One is under the Brooklyn Bridge, one is between Brooklyn’s piers 4 and 5, one near pier 35 and the last one is on Governer’s Island. The project is the brainchild of Danish artist Olafur Eliasson who is one of todays most influencial artists of his generation. Frankly I loved seeing it but it was not that spectacular. The falls are very mechanical looking but very appropriately placed in a mechanical enviornment. I think a more profound statement would be to create these waterfalls in a more natural setting but too, I would hate to disturb that kind of enviornment.
When we got there we witnessed a "yoga" act where two African American’s were doing yogic acrobatics. It was quite interesting so I will post a few pics of that too. We had lunch before going aboard the boat that would take us to the 4 waterfalls. The trip lasted for about half an hour which was enough time to see them.
Here are the pictures:
Here is one of the acrobat artists bent in half and walking like this….can you say FLEXIBLE?!
These are the tall ships which were closed yesterday along with the South Street Seaport Museum. That was a disappointment too. I would love to take a sail on either of these ships.
I took this picture of the buildings along the shore. Really kook arcitecture. The textures of the buildings are very artistic as well…it goes really well with the waterfall concept.
This is a picture I took of a water taxi that travels back and forth from NJ to NY.
These are the falls under the Brooklyn Bridge.
Another view of the Falls under the Brooklyn Bridge.
These are the falls between Pier’s 4&5.

Pier 35 Falls.
governer’s Island falls. We didn’t get really close to these.
After the boat re-docked we went back uptown and walked around to do a little shopping. We didn’t buy anything but had a very good time "people watching".
Peace,
LYB

I’m just getting caught up, and read about your son. I am so sorry…. I can only imagine how heart breaking that is for you. Surely one day he will come to his senses.

I have been to the places you have photos (not in a very long time) and don’t remembe falls – are they new?

New York is my favourite city! I’m so envious. Heard about the falls on NPR and the internet. What an awesome idea. The one under the Brooklyn Bridge is the best in my opinion. walked across that bridge many times….

I’d read about these in New York magazine. Love seeing your pictures of them. Those a views of Brooklyn bridge I’ve never seen. There’s something about pictures by people you know that are really special. Did you go see the orange gates in Central Park a year or so ago?
