Lifting for 6-22-9
I suppose I could have posted before, but I just haven’t been in the mood. Could have written about this flu I’m getting over. Or a rant about people driving slow in the middle lane. My mind just feels kind of quiet. And thus the pages remain blank.
8 months. Go us.
She’s addicted to Everquest 2, and she doesn’t see why I’m hesistant to get involved in those kinds of games. Always promised myself not to get addicted to an online game you have to pay for.
Finally bothered getting my diploma this morning. Ceremonies are a formality, and the piece of paper is nothing more than proof of accomplishment, where the accomplishment is the process involved. Dad still nags about getting a four-year degree because it’ll, wait for it, “open doors”. Guaranteed if I get a four-year degree without any sort of plan, I’ll be in the exact same situation. Makes more sense to know what you need to get educated in for a job, then get educated, so you can wave a piece of paper saying you passed some classes, than to major in Underwater Basketweaving.
Meh.
I haven’t been to the gym in two weeks, one week I took off, and another week of being feverish. I tell the girl I’m going to be ridiculously sore afterwards. She tells me not to overdo it. Thing is, no matter what I do, great or little, I’m going to be sore. I look forward to it!
Going back to an A/B type split. I made really good process on StrongLifts last fall, and it was a workout I stuck with for a long time. Lower volume, focus on strength and trying to bring my numbers up. My bodyweight is under 150 for the first time in three years. I look about the same as I did three years ago. Go figure. Contemplating writing a rant about how bulking is a load of crap, because all it did was get me fat. Hesitate because I figure wiser minds would point out I didn’t eat perfectly nor am I strong enough to yield a stronger appearance. Getting stronger can always make a difference.
I still like lifting. So I do it.
- Day A
Workout I
Squat:
5 @ 45, 95, 135 lbs
3 @ 185 lbs
3, 3 @ 175 lbs
BB Bench:
5 @ 45, 95 lbs
3×5 @ 115 lbs
T-bar Row:
5 @ 30, 75 lbs
3×5 @ 100 lbs
DB Shoulder Press: 10, 6 @ 30 lbs
Elbow-out DB Row: 10, 6 @ 30 lbs
DB Curl: 2×10 @ 25 lbs
I remember working up to squatting 205 for 5×5. At least. I undershot to 185 lbs, thinking I’d be conservative and work my way back up. Man. Having not squatted heavy in a while, that weight felt HEAVY on my back. I kind of liked it! On each set, I felt like a fourth rep would have either been unwise or bad form, so I stopped. I’ll either do next workout with work sets of 175 or 165. Either way, I still want to hit my target of 5 reps.
I remember working up to benching 130 lbs for 5×5. I also remember how much leg drive I had to utilize. I undershot to 115. It felt heavy, but I was able to knock out the reps without any significant leg drive. Form felt okay.
Ah, t-bar rows. I haven’t decided whether to continue with them, or to do regular bb rows.
Still bent on growing shoulders. Tossed in curls because fuck the anti-curl dogma.
I still would like to do Strength I, II and III at some point, but I feel like the timing isn’t right, right now.
What the hell is with this weather? It needs to be sunny and 90 degrees RIGHT NOW, GODDAMN IT.
Warning Comment
you can have our 100 degree heat, it sucks.
