No Va.

I was going to hit the gym this morning. I was very excited to start a new routine I wrote for myself.

Except the van wouldn’t start.

It was cold on Friday, and she started. Come Monday morning, nice and warm out, bright and sunny, nope. She was struggling, but she wouldn’t turn over. I hit the gas pedal a little, but that made no difference. The charge on the battery was fine.

I’m not a car person, so I did one of the few things I know how to do: I changed the spark plugs. I took one out and noticed, “Holy shit, how the hell was the van still starting?” There’s a car parts store within walking distance, so I went there and said, “Give me four of these.” They come in sets of four anyway, but shh.

For a split second, it felt like she was going to start, but no. It seemed like she was closer to turning over, but wouldn’t. I popped the hood back up and checked the connections.

Still, no va.

Realizing I couldn’t lift today, I did some simple bodyweight stuff. The best branch for pull-ups is by the road, so I did some branch pull-ups there. I’d swear a car with two old ladies slowed down to stare at me. What, you’ve never seen a guy do pull-ups on a branch before? I then came inside and did some push-ups. I suck at push-ups. My body just feels heavy and my muscles give out.

    Branch Pull-ups: 6, 3, 3 @ BW
    Push-ups: 3×8 @ BW

I’ll do some king deadlifts and maybe some static bulgarian split squats later for my legs. I prefer doing legwork when I’m not wearing pants. (I wear shorts in the gym.)

Sigh.

I’m sure my dad’s going to give me the “The van is 50 years old! You shouldn’t be so emotional” speech.

It could be related to the high idling a week ago. Entirely possible. In fact, very likely. I’ll go googling.

Aw, that really is awful. I just got myself a newer car two days ago, after my 7-year-old finally gave out. You ought to do the same. How about a bright, shiny Chevrolet Nova? =D

Why do you think the Chevy Nova sold so poorly in Mexico when it first came out? *laughing*
