Morning of 12-21-6
I was meaning to get my resting heartrate first thing in the morning. It always seems too high for comfort when I check it. So I glance over at the clock and wait for it to hit the next minute. I count.
75 BPM. Huh? Isn’t that really high for FIRST thing in the morning? I realized I DID stretch inadvertantly, but come on, stretching can’t shoot your heartrate up that much. So I did it again.
74 BPM. Ridiculous. Hrm. My heart feels slower right now. :: checks ::
68 BPM. …Huh? How can I have a lower heartrate after I’ve gotten out of bed? Maybe I was warm under the sheets. I’m completely naked right now. :: nods :: Oh, and upwardly tuggified. I’m proud of how dedicated I am to my penis. He needs love! :: hugs his penis ::
I’ve been saying for a while that I want to drop my resting heartrate. After I finish HGM in June (all ten phases), I want to put together some sort of twice daily training to drop my heartrate. I’m thinking some steady-state cardio in the morning, and then some intensive lifting in the evening. My logic is that I’d rather lift in the evening so my musskulls have the next day to recover. If I were to do it the other way around, it might sabotage myself. It’s a thought.
Of course, it occurs to me that I’ll have some time on my hands over winter break. It’s only three weeks, but it’s SOMETHING. Lowering my resting heartrate is rather important to me, so any time spend on it is worth it. Lifting with low rest periods increases my work capacity, which it has, I can handle much lower rest periods than I could a year ago. But, as far as I know, the best way to lower one’s heartrate is steady-state cardio. Which I absolutely detest. But, as I said, my heartrate is rather important to me.
I recall the few times I tried it over the summer, I held somewhere around 150 BPM for around 20 minutes. And nearly died in the process. Ha ha. Using the Karvonen Formula ((MHR-RHR)*intensity)+RHR, 150 BPM would place my intensity somewhere under 65%, which.. probably is a little low. 155 BPM would place it somewhere between 65% and 70%. Over a three-week span, I could just add time to get myself up to 45 minutes? That’s actually very feasible. It supposedly takes six weeks for changes to really take place, but as I said, three weeks is better than nothing.
I’ll try getting into the habit of checking my resting heartrate when I first get up. It would be really bad if it really is normally over 70.
I’m thinking maybe your heart has to work harder when you’re sleeping? *Shrug* I don’t know.

That really rather offends me, Tim. What if video games are the CAUSE of me being ‘gone?’ What’s really more important, playing around in a universe that doesn’t exist or being with a cute girl? Really? If you had to choose between playing Doom and cuddling with Lauren, which would you choose?

No, I think YOU’RE missing the point. Do the feelings of anyone other than yourself ever enter your consciousness? Fuck off.

Eh, 75 is on the high end of normal, so technically, you’re okay. 68 is really good – pro athletes are usually around 60. And I know temp is a factor for me – if I’m hot, or even just a little warm, my heart rate tends to increase. *random noter…*

It’s actually pretty simple. Your body’s been at rest for a long time, operating probably at 60bpm while you’re asleep, and then you get up, and the instant motion makes your body go “OH CRAP WE’RE DOING THINGS NOW”, so the heartrate shoots up. And then it realizes you’re not really doing all that much, so it slows down again.

I had a resting heartrate of 55 in college. Seriously. I was smoking and didn’t exercise. The guy at the gym took it twice, he didn’t believe it. ::: shrug ::: Now? I’ve got too much caffeine flowing to get much below 70.

It’s no wonder why you’re pulse is faster during sleep. You’re tugging at night, right? *snaps fingers* That explains it. Oh, and I’m cracking up at the thought of you hugging your penis… How precious! 😀

RYN: Then I should ask you, Sensai, with your kind indulgence of course, how you manage to tune out dentistry? I am but a young grasshopper, hoping to NOT endure any pain or discomfort while in the chair-o-death. ::giggles:: I didn’t realize your penis required so much attention! But you are very accomodating to it, I’m sure. 😀
