Movie Request.

I used to use Amelié as my cry movie. If I needed a mood perk, and something that would bring a tear to my eye, I’d watch it. Unfortunately, I’ve since become desensitized to the movie.

It’s a hard request, as I’m a rather hard movie critic. I have to first like a movie and enjoy it, as well as take it seriously, before I’ll even be able to feel such emotions for it. Added to the difficulty is that I don’t like sad movies. I know, odd request, a movie that makes you cry but isn’t sad? That’s the thing. Amelié is the opposite of sad, it’s uplifting.

Well, I suppose the moments that make me cry aren’t the happy moments. Sure. Fine, so be it. But the overall movie is uplifting. It just annoys me when movies have tragedy after tragedy. I lose all empathy for the characters and stop caring. I have a hard time relating to a lot of characters in movies and literature. But when I do, it’s specific. I don’t live vicariously easily.

Oh well. The soundtrack will have to suffice for now, however pensive.

Have you seen “Dancer in the Dark?” Not exactly the happiest movie in the world, but the ending is a twist of tragedy mixed with happiness. It made me sob. I LOVE your new colors.

I love Amelié as well. 🙂 I love how it’s uplifting, like you said.

omg its been so long since I’ve seen a movie

ryn It should be a law that all high-school math teachers are to tell their kids, “Unless you are going into engineering, mathematics, or advanced chemistry, you will never use these functions if your day-to-day lives.” Algebra, geometry, calculus… What can an English/Psych major possibly glean from them? ~

A Very Long Engagement. It has Audrey Tautou in it as well.

Life Is Beautiful. It was completely not what I expected. And positively heartbreaking. And upbeatness-that-makes-you-cry.

The Notebook Sommersby that’s all off the top of my head

“Proof” is a good movie. Not sure if it’ll make you cry (I did, but that’s me), but it’s got a deep beauty and the ending is uplifting. And it’s got an excellent cast to boot.

Everything Is Illuminated.

OH. And I agree with Life Is Beautiful.

ryn: well guess what. You’re a retard. Ptthpppt

Five movies to make you cry: Aparajito, Umberto D., Sansho the Bailiff, Stroszek, In a Year of 13 Moons.

Garden State. Although I realize I’ve been suggesting it for months and you haven’t watched it yet, so, why suggest it again? *shrug*

Hi, I randomly found you, can you check out my latest entry and tell me your opinion? Thanks.

The green mile. its not uplifting as such, but its powerful and its not just tragedy after tragedy.

“The Shawshank Redemption” always does that for me — I cry like a baby, not sad but in that “holy crap, look at everything they went through” kind of way, the good way.

Ooh, yeah, after reading your notes, let me piggyback on “Garden State” — such a good movie.

Life Is Beautiful. Get Garden State for the soundtrack.

my “Amelie” is “Untamed Heart” w/ Marisa Tomei and Christian Slater. I know exactly when I’m going to start bawling :o)

I’d offer my precious “Fall” but it’s out of print anyhow and I’d be destroyed if you destroyed it. :+P

I hate the movies where you give such sympathy for the character but it never happened. It’s probably because I see characters get sympathy because they lost a parent but they don’t really know what it’s like. I dunno.

Life as a House – if you get the chance and need a good cry, for all the good and all the bad. Great movie. Have you seen “Run, Lola, Run?” Not a cry movie, but a great movie…interesting perspective. Highly recommended. (German: subtitled)
