Only I could think of this while lying in bed. The thing is, most people don’t have a grasp of basic logic. Follow quickly.

If everything in the world was based on truth, then everything we learn would be based on truth. If everything we learned was based on truth, then we would all agree on everything. We do not agree on everything.

If I remember my basic logic, the correct conclusion would be, “Not everything in the world is based on truth” or equally, “Not everything we learn is based on truth.” The negation of the original statement. A naive person would conclude, “There is no truth.” This is false, as you could put anything in the antecedent and suddenly it would not exist. Want an example?

If everything in the world was based on Timmy, then everything we learn would be based on Timmy. If everything we learned was based on Timmy, then we would all agree on everything. We do not agree on everything. Therefore, Timmy does not exist.

Which is silly, as I’m right here.

Proving an argument wrong means nothing other than the fact that an argument is wrong. Proving a quantity false is a bit trickier. Of course, the quantifiers “everything” are bitches in and of themselves.

Sorry, I’m just agast at the magnitude of dumb people. This is the same world we’re looking at, right? People think they have a right to their opinion. Yes. You have a right to believe things that are false. It’s not politically correct to insult opinions, but somebody has to be wrong.

You make so much sense. I get exactly what you’re saying. Everything has a truth, everything. In some cases, the truth has yet to be found, as many things aren’t fact. For example: The sun is (whatever number) degrees Celcius. Have we ever landed on the sun? No. So, we don’t know. It’s just an approximate measurement. You have alot of common sense, that’ll take you far.

i took a critical thinking/logic class last semester and we throughly covered this. Usually in weird examples about turtles and michael jordan. But yes the inverse of your thought is not that there is no truth and anyone who doesnt understand that is not very logical at all.

Logic makes my head hurt.

It doesn’t take into mind the fact that many people know truth but refuse to accept it as such. Think about circ evidence.
