Who the hell decided that?

Now I’ve been very vocal about how there used to be one kind of shoe. Well, maybe not one kind of shoe. There were shoes. Maybe slippers or flip-flops in a different section. Definitely partition high-heels. But somewhere along the line, they decided to create tennis shoes, and running shoes, and walking shoes to the point where you can’t just buy a damn pair of shoes.

Anyway, this phenomenon has apparently made it’s way into movies. Or maybe it did a while ago, but I was oblivious to it. It’s been a long time since I bought a movie in person. Why exactly are movies classified by genre? A good number of movies simply don’t fall into the big three of “Drama/suspense”, “Comedy” or “Sci-Fi/Anime”. And the Special Interest is always crap nobody wants to see anyway. I also can’t quite figure out why I saw two entire stacks of Coming To America. (Starring Eddie Murphy. I just remember one week on SpikeTV when they were overkilling promos for that movie.)

I digress; my point is I was trying to find Amelie and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind at Circuit City. Hey, you tell me a better place to buy movies, because I can’t think of any. I scoured the drama/suspense area. They should be there, right? Out of curiosity, I went into the comedy section. I looked through the A’s. And then I saw it in it’s green box. Amelie. …Who the hell decided Amelie is a comedy?

Oh, but that’s not the worst of it. With all due respect to Rob Schneider, as I love his movies, I should NOT have found Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind behind Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigalo.

I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with Paige, twice. Or rather, I watched it twice while she went in and out of consciousness. How fitting, considering the movie. We rented that movie at a time when I knew we could end badly. I saw us in that movie. And.. To this day, if I could do it all over again, knowing how I am, how she is, and how we react when we’re together, I’d do it. I just mean from last May forward – one relationship with her in memory is enough!

And Amelie, I’ve watched on DivX so many times. I’ll wait for the right moment to break in the DVD.

I first noticed it with music. In fact, music is so bad now that they have all these absolutely ridiculous sub-categories that they seem to just make up FOR bands that don’t fit into their “bigger” categories…and I wonder why they even bother. Just put the store in alphabetical order, I’ll find what I want. Oh well.

that’s psycho. they have bad people deciding where these movies go.

i love both of those movies. did you see Garden State? If you liked those two, you’d more likely than not like GS too. sorry I’ve sucked at noting lately. I have been keeping up though, promise. *nods*

…or like you said not even worry about genres. just have all the movies, in alphabetical order, regardless of genre. they should do that with books too [alphabetical by author, though], and with cds. *nods*

Those are two of my favourite movies ever. In Blockbuster, Amélie is in the Foreign Film section and Eternal Sunshine in the Drama section. Personally, I think everything should just be sorted in alphabetical order. That’s nice and user-friendly. But as for shoes…I suppose you can’t sort them alphabetically. Oh well, I hate shoe shopping anyway. 🙂 Take care. Happy New Year. <3

Movies are sorted by genre because they don’t want to sort them by gender. I mean, who wnats to have to pick up a movie, open it, and stare inside to see if it’s a boy movie or a girl movie? That’s just rude. And guys would run screaming from the room if the little gren screen came on and said: “This movie has been rated C for Chickflick. May not be suitable for male audiences.”

those are the two dvds i always have. and now napoleon dynamite has made its case for #3.

Just for the record, “anime” should not be counted as one of the “big three” in terms of movie catergories, ;). It should be comedy, romance or thriller/sci-fi. :). *grumbles about anime becoming a seemingly valid form of movie*
