American Jesus
I want an American Jesus
One to smile at me all through the day
One who wont care if I disobey him
Who will take all of my new sins away
*
I want an American Jesus
So that I can make him look just like me
One who smiles while I sin and deny him
And never frown at all my hypocrisy
*
I want an American Savior
From the great-big microwave in the sky
One to let me live my life how I want to
Yet somehow save my filthy soul when I die
*
I want an American Savior
Who wont care if I dont quite love him back
Fill a pew is all he ever wants from me
But answer my prayers and give me what I lack
*
I know the Bible cant quite support this
But Im happy anyway
Cause the preachers ring this out from the pulpit
Every single Sunday
*
I want an American Scapegoat
Who can be my cosmic vending machine
Answer my prayers no matter what I ask him
Give me riches and American green
*
I want an American Scapegoat
One to crucify afresh every day
One to beat on and get out my aggression
But still let me into Heaven anyway
*
I know the Bible cant quite support this
But Im happy anyway
Cause the preachers ring this out from the pulpit
Every single Sunday
*
I want an American Jesus
So that I can make him look just like me
One who smiles while I sin and deny him
And never frown at all my hypocrisy

I was a bit bored today and was playing with my guitar and low-and-behold, I sort of wrote a song which partly shows my view of Christianity (the American version of it especially).
While reading what I wrote though, I was reminded of a lesson I learned when I worked on a horse farm when I was seven.
Most people think that farms smell bad, because they do. The strange thing about it though is that if you spend enough time around all the shit, eventually you rarely notice it any more.
Perhaps churches should hand out shovels to people when they walk inside instead of bulletins.
one thing about that song that does ring true is the fact of him dieing for us.
