Rosebud

Rosebud
Just a memory of smiles gone by
Fading
Slowly like the sunset from the sky
Holding
Getting weaker with each passing breath
Regrets
Hammer in the nails of creeping death
*
Rosebud
Just a word to make you wonder, “Why?”
Cryptic
It might be truth or may be lie
Searching
Only want someone to really care
Looking
Hard but finding that there’s no love there
*
Rosebud
Only spoken with a loving sigh
Floodgates
Hold back tears the eyes refuse to cry
Owning
All the world but what cannot be bought
Missing
All the things the heart sincerely sought
*
Rosebud
At the end, no longer fun and games
Burning
Up the past within the heated flames
Pity
For the King who fell and died a pawn
Ashes
For the Rosebud now forever gone.

For a long time and from many sources I’ve heard that Orson Wells’ movie, Citizen Kane, is one of the greatest films of all time. Being as how I was raised on old movies and grew to have a general dislike for them, I have always had a bit of an aversion to them. Since Citizen Kane is a black and white movie from 1941, I presumed it was a sucky movie that my mom would love and I would hate.

Just out of plain curiosity and impulsiveness I got it while I was at the video rental place. I watched it. I liked it. Although I think I could come up with lots of reasons why I like it and why it’s a good movie, I also don’t know if I can.

There were a lot of things about the main character, Mr. Kane, which I could identify with. There were lots of things about Mr. Kane that I wished I could be.

In a way it was a bit of a sad, depressing movie. It was about a man who was on the top of the world, yet couldn’t grasp the things he wanted most; love and happiness.

The thing I wrote at the beginning has a bit to do with the movie. If you’ve seen it, maybe you’ll figure it out. If you haven’t, I’m not going to tell you any more.

“I run away but never have to go far
Cause I know a place where I’ll be
(Living in my head)
Far away from everything
*
You’ll never reach me
Never see me
Sinking any lower
You’ll never reach me
Never see me
And that’s what makes me happy
*
Up here again
I always win
Cause I know a way
Cause I know a place
(Living in my head)
Far away from everything.”

I liked the poem thing, it was very nice. I’ve never heard of the movie, I’m glad you liked it though. RYN: Well… I’m glad you still like me. Still missing you…

Wow. I really liked the poem. It was excellent. And the format was really great too. I’ve never seen the movie. But I”m with you for the most part on the “old movie” thing On a side note. The name Rosebud reminds me of this fish we used to have (when I was little)named Rosebud. Unfortunately, it kept dying, and my dad kept sneaking a new “rosebud” in the tank before we noticed it

RYN: two tylenol and a full glass of water = no hangover. trust me!

RYN: At least your feet are warm. You’re a pretty good poet. I look forward to the next.

I’m adding this to my movie list. I’ve never seen it; have heard about it all my life. Thanks for the reminder!
