Temptation

I wish I had some new “revelation” to impart on the masses that have no idea that I exist, and that they themselves scarcely do. But I don’t.

I really did think of a ton of stuff today in my truck, at work. But I can’t really remember any of it. Oh well, like it matters anyways.

There is one thing I remember though. I got a shirt from some friends that says “Lead me not into temptation… I can find it myself.”

Now although it was given as a bit of a joke, it got me wondering…

In the Bible, Jesus was asked by his disciples how people should pray. The answer he gave became know as The Lord’s Prayer. In most “liturgical” churches this is something that has become “required reciting” for every church service.

It goes…

Our Father

Who art in heaven

Hallowed be thy name

Thy kingdom come

Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven

Give us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our trespasses

As we forgive those who trespass against us

And lead us not into temptation

But deliver us from evil

For thine is the kingdom

And the power

And the glory

For ever, and ever

Amen.

So I was wondering why Jesus himself said that when we pray, to ask God not to lead us into temptation. The Bible says (James 1:13) “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither he tempteth any man.”

Basically, God doesn’t tempt people.

Yet Jesus himself said to pray that God doesn’t lead us into temptation. So what’s up?

Either God doesn’t tempt people at all (meaning that he can still hold his title as being “blameless” and can still damn people to hell, but he points out an error in what his “son” said) or he does (meaning that he is partly responsible for the sins that people commit, and thereby unjust in damning anyone to hell).

Anyhow, that is the only sliver I remember of all the crap I though about today. I know it isn’t action-packed. I know I’m regressing a tad into my days as a wannabe-Christian. But hey, that’s what the shirt made me think about.

Other than that, life is just as bland and boring and pointless as ever.

My dad just popped in to tell me how he and my mom were supposed to be going out to dinner somewhere, but they’re having tranny problems with the car, and their van needs a new alternator (so yeah, maybe it’s kind of therapeutic for him to tell me his problems. Or maybe he just figures I might give him money to help him out like he’s done lots of times before, and many times before I felt sorry for my parents and felt a bit of obligation to help my folks out…so I gave them money).

Basically that means I’m going to become primary taxi driver around here.

Oh well, life is great. Life is wonderful. Life is very fulfilling and is very meaningful.

And yes, I’m lying…geez, learn to take a joke.

I could say lots more about lots of things here, but I don’t feel like it.
