Swirly Girl: On the Edge of Reason

I have a patient that would rather lay in bed on somedays, which is ok with me. She is completly independent with her activities of daily living. She has a mild case of dementia and really isn’t appropriate for a locked unit. Her life consist of crossword puzzles, CNN, and smoking a cigerette every 2 hours.

Last week a nursing assistant came and told me that said patient didn’t want to come to lunch she wasn’t in the mood and would rather lay in bed watching CNN and eating icecream. The nursing assistant refused to deliver her this simple request telling her she had to eat her lunch before she has a dessert.

After hearing this, I went into the freezer and got her two cups of icecream and some black coffee.

These young and immature caregivers need to put themselves in her place. I have this cartoon hanging up on my bulliten board to remind me and other people to treat our patients with dignity and respect.

I packed my back pack with a Mike’s hard lemonade, my camera, cell phone and a bag of chips. Miss Nelly told me that she wanted to go for a hike. You can see she was quite pleased with her walk along the bay.

Im in the middle of a girl(s) day out and so far I got my nails done this time I bypassed having a french and had them painted purple “Just because I’m in that kind of mood”. After that, I did a 15 minute tan at electric beach, now I’m in the middle of watching MTV cribs–A show that BB always makes me feel guilty for watching. Later I’m going to watch Bridget Jones:On the Edge of Reason.

I thought this was really cute–I think I should try and draw something like this–you know I used to draw for hours when I was a kid

A view of the bay, there were a few cute barge workers today–I waved at them!

Their building another bridge right along side the old one. Tolls will start out at $3.00 and will increase to $7.00. We are thinking about moving away from this place (MYSTIC BAY) and live somewhere else. BB works on the other side of he bridge and doesn’t want to pay for the tolls. I hope it will be someplace near the water–!

Thank you for your very sweet note. I’m an OD addict and it’s so fun to read/write/read/read/read/write, isn’t it?

I’ve seen that cartoon hanging around here at St.ElseWhere. And you are right. When all you want is a little ice cream and CNN and you’re an adult, what the heck is wrong with that? When I’m old with dementia and all I want is a little chocolate and Lifetime movies, I’d better not get a pertinent nurse aide who just learned to lace her shoes telling me I can’t have my chocolate and movie.

I liked the necklace, I don’t wear bracelets. $14.00 a day would add up mighty fast.
