FOR THE LOVE OF TUCK

Last Sunday, We had a beautiful morning taking the dogs for a walk in the harbor after the walk, BB decided to take a drive and look for some property. I opted out on the drive so BB took his bestfriend “Tucker”

he was tied up in the back of his truck so he could smell the country air, unfortunately, for Tuck the only thing he smelled was the asphalt.–you can probally guess what happened– He jumped out of the truck which was going 50 mph. In the past, I have warned BB about the dangers of tying up the dog in the back of truck. I have even told him the story about what happened when I was about 7 years old and witnessed a dog jump out of a truck and drug down the street. Many cars honked for the driver to stop but I guess he had his music up to loud. It is still a haunting memory for me. If only BB would have listened to me.

Tucker was rushed to the hospitl into the hands of the young vet, she is the same vet who treated Nelly for the snowboarding injury, I knew that Tuck would be in good hands. Tuck had an open wound all the way to the bone on his right front paw. and many other abrasions and cuts. He was able to walk in with out difficulty. This was a very good thing. The vet’s main concern was intenal injuries. Tuck would have to stay the night for surgery, x rays, labwork and pain control. It was a very difficult night sleeping without Tuck in our room. I feel like such a mother, even though I don’t have children I still have these insticts of love and the dreadful worry. My heart was broken right in half. Of course, I cried and blamed BB for what happened, I tried to not go to bed angry when Tuck needed me to be strong for him. I watched the clock all night waiting for 5am tossing and turning with worry. Please Let Tuck be ok. “God” “Great Spirit” please let our doggie run and play again. I jumped out of bed and rushed to the phone to call the vet at 5am. Good News!! Tuck will be ok only one small fracture in his paw, no internal injuries. I cried with happiness and couldn’t wait to see my baby. After work, we picked him up. The Vet said that Tuck is a very lucky dog, albeit, He looked like a train wreck, numerous areas of hair had to be shaved off, he had a drain stickig out of his paw, a huge E-collar, massive pain patch on his back. We walked him out of the back room and into the waiting area I noticed people moved back in their seats and stared at Tuck. I felt like such a bad mother. We paid our $2,000 vet bill–yes you read this correctly–I was so elated to bring my baby home where he belongs. He wasn’t a very good boy at the hospital and they had to sedate him twice in order to do simple prodedures. This really jacked up the price which was way over the estimate, but Baby Tuck is worth every penny.

A WEEK LATER AND TUCK IS ALMOST BACK TO NORMAL I’m starting to breath again.
