Watchmen trailer *claps like a fruit*
Ok I know I promised you guys pictures of the kids but…
I’m a huge dork. lol
So I had to post this…
It definitely shows potential, however, I’m still extremely skeptical.
I worry that not being able to include all of the ‘backstory’ articles and the “necessary evil” of having to omit the ‘Black Freighter’ portion* will take away from the story…
*Apparently, ‘Tales of the Black Freighter’ was in the script, but….well here. Let me “quote” wikipedia:
“Tales of the Black Freighter, a comic within the Watchmen comic, will be adapted as a direct-to-video animated feature, which will be released on March 11, 2009.[75] It was originally included in the script,[62] but was cut due to budget restrictions,[61] because the segment would have added $20 million to the budget, as Snyder wanted to film it in a stylized manner reminiscent of 300.[75] Snyder considered including the animated film in the final cut,[11] but the film was already approaching a three hour running time.[75] Gerard Butler, who starred in 300, voices the Captain in the film, having been promised a role in the film, which never materialized.[76]
The Tales of the Black Freighter DVD will also include Under the Hood, a documentary detailing the characters’ backstories, which takes its cue from Hollis Mason’s memoirs in the novel. The film will be released on DVD four months later, and Warner Bros. is also considering releasing an extended edition, with the animated film edited back into the main picture. In addition, a dozen short films (each around twenty minutes in length) will be released on the internet, using narration over the panels of the comic strip to familiarize newcomers to the story. These may also be released on DVD.”
Not to mention leave all those poor folks who haven’t READ Watchmen (new link) in the dark… The link isn’t meant to ruin the story for those who don’t want to know what happens, but honestly I think I’ll enjoy it more BECAUSE I’ve read it. Hell I think EVERYONE who’s read it would enjoy it more, simply because they’re having to leave so many pertinent pieces of the story out…
Simply for that, I think it’ll probably flop.
No wait. If it flops, it’ll be because…
a) Comic/Alan Moore fans are not going to see it, simply because no one has ever, nor ever will do justice to his work
b) Random movie-goers will be pretty lost on a lot of things without the missing info (so for this reason alone, I URGE you to read the graphic novel before seeing the movie)
c) V for Vendetta. If you thought it was good, you didn’t read the GN. (I quit watching within the first 10 minutes.)
Either that or you’re like a friend of ours who always has to disagree with other people lol
I HOPE it won’t flop, the trailer looks extremely promising…but they’ve screwed the other film adaptations from Moore’s work so you can’t always tell from that. 🙁
Anywho. Yep. You know what…just go READ the dang thing regardless of whether you see the movie or not! It’s the only graphic novel (read: comic book series put into book form) to ever win a damn Hugo Award! Sheesh! READ IT! Forget about the pretty pictures and read it like a friggin book already! lol
OH and let me just say…I’m SO glad the original concept for the Justice League movie was scrapped.
But again…from what I’ve read and all I’m still not sure how well it’s going to work. 🙁
Marvel is definitely blowing DC/Warner Bros out of the water in this genre…
annnnd anyway. lol The puppy piddled all over her own booty today so I had to “torture” her with a bath.
Let me tell you. Cuddling a 7 week old great dane until she warms up is both rather hard and exhausting lol

I actually just finished reading the graphic novel over this last week or so, and I found it to be fantastic. I think it will actually make for a great movie, mostly just due to the wonderful action sequences in the novel. It won’t be the same, for sure: it will have MUCH less depth, but I think it will be fun just for the action scenes. I also liked the V for Vendetta movie, so that could just be

me loving movies; but then again I read V after having seen the movie, which changes things. I didn’t like 300, so it bugs me that The Watchmen will have the same director… We’ll just have to see, but an optimist I remain: I think it will be really good. 🙂
