Can’t Keep UP!

I can’t believe how much is going on with me right now – even just today:

– working on a trip to visit Lynne’s brother in Indy. We are either heading down this weekend or next. Brian’s birthday is the 27th and I had booked that trip to Kalamazoo to surprise him but that can be easily cancelled. Turns out he wants to ride in a local bike ride this Saturday rather than going to Indy as planned so no biggie. Cancel MI hotel and Indy, here we come!

– Carol’s birthday party is finally taking shape. Her DIL and I have nailed down the date (7/12/08), the time (evening) and where (my house) Now, the invites will get out in the next couple of weeks after we gather all of her friends and families addresses, then food and trying to keep it all a surprise!

– I had lunch with a potential new board member yesterday and I think she would fit in really well. I worked with her at my first credit union job and while I thought she was just a blond ditz, she has worked her way up from Marketing Assistant, in my days there to a full fledged Marketing VP. She is also just stepping down as a 3 term board president to our local marketing association chapter. She is looking for a new group to join and less time investment – I think we can help her!

– I then had lunch with the current board president today – she had approached me a few weeks ago about being considered for VP. Our terms run from August 1st – July 31st and 4 board members terms are up and will not be seeking reelection, including the president and VP. Well – turns out, after discussion with other board members, they would like to nominate for me for PRESIDENT! I told her all of my thoughts, fears and frustrations with the board and with being the president and she was able to put a lot of my fears at ease. I am still concerned about the time commitment needed to do a really good job but I know I COULD do it. But do I want to? I have to let her know by the end of the week.

– I get my annual bonus letter tomorrow. What do I expect? Honestly – the bare bones minimum which is 1% of your salary but our new CEO pledged an additional 2.5% of our total salaries into the pot this year, to reward us for all of our hard work (and the fact bonuses have decreased every year for the past 3 years), so it could be more. But since I am on my way out the door of my current department, I think it would be nothing short of a miracle if it were more.

– Only 2 more weeks in my current position – it went so fast! My new boss has been in touch, we are having lunch next week to work on my new annual plan for the year and when I told her about the board opportunity today, she was very supportive. I want to give her more details about my time commitment before I tell them yes – just to make sure she understands how often I may need to be gone. MAN – do I hope working with her will be as fun as it seems so far!

– a co-workers grandma just passed away suddenly this morning and my heart just breaks for her. OK – not exactly suddenly but she took a very quick downturn when the family had been so hopeful she would recover. I just remember how hard it was on me when my grandma passed away 4 years ago and just hearing her talk about, I couldn’t help but cry for her and for the grandma I miss so much.

– I came home early from work today – my stomach was bothering me like crazy and my face felt SO hot, like I was running a temp. I just felt generally lousy. I worked from the couch for a couple of hours before my network connection booted me off my work laptop. Do I need to be hit over the head to wrap it up for the day? NO WAY! Now, I need to decide if I go out for my workout walk with my aunt tonight so skip it, in case I am starting to come down with something. I feel much better and figure if I eat dinner with no issues, I will give it my best try.

– we have a big fitness competition that just started at work this past Monday. We all were issued pedometers and are to keep track of our “steps” for the next 10 weeks. We have broken up into teams of 5 people and are competing to see who can get the highest number of steps over that time. You also get step points for other forms of exercise, using a conversion sheet they have given us. I had 10,990 steps yesterday with my weight workout and right now, just walking around work and home all day today, I already have 6,400. One of my co-workers put out a challenge to everyone in my department – he says he is going to accumulate 1 million steps by the end of the 10 weeks and if he doesn’t, he is taking the whole department out to lunch. Just some friendly competition!

Ok – I better get some dinner so I can get out and get my workout in!

My friend has the same competition at her work and I wish I had a work to have one!
