Square

I’m moving offices. It’s a complicated move involving expired leases and non-agreements with owners.

I love my current office. It’s based in a music venue which is locally well known and many famous bands have played there including Blur, Oasis, Collapsed Lung, etc. In fact, Icklewriter’s son’s band has played there several times and the venue features in the photo on one of their albums.

Many years ago, more than I care to remember, I used to go to this venue as a motorcycling teenager. It had a different name then and was run by a different organisation, but even now, I remember the names of some of the “characters” I used to know who congregated there.

Rock Schools are run during half-term holidays and Easter and summer holidays. The noise is horrendous – out-of-tune vocalists compete with three-chord guitar players for volume and the wannabe drummers vent a lifetime’s frustration at being teenagers on the skins. And I love it!

But now the lease that the county council held has expired and the owners have recalled it. Supporters of the Rock School formed a charity and partnership deal and have negotiated use of the venue for a further two years (until it’s knocked down to make room for social housing; which is a sin, but that’s another issue). But that doesn’t include me. I now have to move to the other office base, which is on a school site.

My working life is in boxes at the moment and the boxes will soon be moved to the school site. My job won’t change, but I somehow feel it won’t be the same.

I do hope they’ll drop my dinosaurish computer en route and damage it beyond repair. Then at least one good thing would come out of the move!

Oh, welcome back – again! How lovely to see you here! I’m sorry you are forced to leave your current office, with its special atmosphere and all the memories it holds. But I’m hoping that computer gets dropped, hard, as it is moved!

You could coat the sides of the computer with some, hard to grasp, slippery substance. CRASH!

Glad to hear from you, even if you are suffering through a move. Good luck with the computer (and all the other stuff).

Fancy that? You working in a venue where McT has played! I’m moving offices too. I don’t want to. I have a view of St. Paul’s from where I sit. I’m exchanging it for astroturf. 🙁

Hi there! I hope your summer is going well. Get out of your boxes soon!

Moving in any form is a pain!
