updates

Oddly enough, I’ve had less time to play around with OD this summer that I expected. An update of sorts is long overdue.

The past semester of pharmacy school was nigh-overwhelming. It’s not so much the classes in and of themselves, it is more the endless professional organizations. That in combination with having a boyfriend whom I visited every weekend in spite of being two hours apart.

The classes I took included:

Pharmacotherapy Sequence Classes:
*Renal (2 hours)
*Respiratory (2 hours)
*GI/Hepatic (2 hours)
*Endocrine (2 hours)
*Integumentary (1 hour)
*Herbals and Nutraceuticals (1 hour)
*Reproductive (1 hour)
Other Classes:
*Personnel Management (2 hours)
*Patient Assessment (2 hours)
*Case Studies I (3 hours)
*Introduction to Pharmacy Practice II (1 hour)

Yet another semester I failed to make the Dean’s List (95.0) by a miniscule amount. But finding out that I am currently ranked 9th in my class balances that out. This will qualify me to be inducted into Rho Chi (RX), the national pharmacy honor society. Yay!

Professional Organizations:

Texas Tech Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TTSSHP) [Treasurer, President-Elect]
Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP) [Student Section Executive Committee]
American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) [Student Forum Membership Subcommittee]
Phi Delta Chi – Professional Pharmacy Fraternity (PDC) [Worthy Correspondent, Lubbock Liaison]
Phi Lambda Sigma – National Pharmacy Leadership Society [Secretary/Co-Lubbock Liaison]
School of Pharmacy Student Senate (Vice-President)
American Pharmacist Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) [No office! yay!]

All of this self-punishment is aimed at getting me into a top-notch residency. I’m thinking maybe Johns Hopkins for Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY1) and Mayo Clinic for my Infectious Diseases Specialty Residency (PGY2). Ambitious much?

Though that is not the entirety of my life, methinks it consumes most of it.

Onto more important things…

Chris, my boyfriend. 🙂

In a week we will have been dating for 1 year. It doesn’t feel like we’ve been together long enough to even approach that. But to be perfectly cliché, I guess time flies when you’re having fun.

He’s hot. He’s intelligent. He’s a sweetheart. He makes me laugh. He makes me happy. He is the 25 year old General Manager of a restaurant here in Lubbock.

I feel comfotable enough with our relationship that when school let out for the summer that I chose to move in with him. Moving in has been largely a very good experience – though there are times where seeing him allday, everyday can get to be too much. I love him to death, but I cannot function without at least a little time to myself.

We have a dog that we picked up from the animal shelter about six months ago. She is a fiesty Chihuahua that we named Meredith. We torment her by dressing her up in clothes. She pretty much has an entire wardrobe. She hates people and spends her day trying to catch the ground squirrel/gopher thing that is living in/under the squash plants

Speaking of squash plants….our entire backyard is one big garden. I’ll have to write about that later when I have some more pictures.

Other updates:

*My sister had part of her thyroid removed because it was worried that it was becoming cancerous – fotunately it turned out only to be a goiter.
*My cousin Robyn got married.
*Chris and I have been going to the gym 6 days/week for most of the summer. I have muscles now. It’s crazy.
*I don’t remember if I mentioned it in my last entry, but I came out to all the remaining family members who didn’t know, and that turned out extremely well. My churchy, conservative grandmother met Chris this summer and was surprisingly anxious to do so.

I promised someone here that I would write more often, so I am going to do that. 🙂

Books I’m Reading: Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card
Books Read Recently: Naked, by David Sedaris – This book is HILARIOUS!
