hole.

Well. After about 24 hours of icing my thumb on and off, the swelling hadn’t gone down and the pain grew worse– prolly cuz i was doing stupid stuff like, oh, writing my progress notes for work and stuff. heh. I showed it to the school nurse and her opinion was that it appeared broken. That was first thing in the morning, and i just hoped she mistook always-crooked thumb as a sign of a broken thumb and was wrong.

But. By afternoon, and after 2000mg of Tylenol, the pain was still there and i called my dr and got an appt for 3pm. Sat in the waiting room for a while (I was early) and then went back and asked me what I had done and I told her I had crushed it in the window and before she could say anything, I was like “yes, it was an accident, i promise!” and she laughed and said she was just gonna ask that. Which is one of the many reasons I really, really adore her. Cuz *had* i done it on purpose, I dunno that i wo ulda been able to admit it to her, but i wouldn’t lie to her if she asked.

Anyways. She poked and manipulated and such, and asked me w hat insurance i had. I told her i still didn’t have any. She told me she really would like me to get it x-rayed, cuz while it wasn’t obviously horribly broken, there could be fractures or cracks in the joint that the window landed on. *sigh*

So. I went and got x-rays. No idea how I’m gonna pay for it. I get really frustrated when Ithink about it, cuz it seems like every time i get close to catching up, something stupid happens and sets me back again. *sigh* Elisabeth offered to pay for the x-rays, cuz she feels bad cuz it was technically -her- window. But it’s not like it was her fault. I just wasn’t careful enough. Plus, she just gave me $100 for helping out last week, which i *was* going to spend on frivolous things like winter tires or an electric cat pan. But it’s gone, instead, to dr’s bills. I have no idea how much x-rays even cost 🙁 Ugh.

PLUS, I missed the Girl Scout pinning ceremony cuz I was sitting in the hospital waiting room cuz the x-ray dept was packed. Luckily, a psych prof and her daughter were there to talk to me for 30 of my 45-60 of my minutes waiting. *rolls eyes* She may be jolley, but she’s weird. *sigh*

So, now i’m trying to type with a thumb brace thing on that the dr recommend i go buy. and i can’t decide if it’s hurting my thumb more cuz of the squeezing, or if it’s helping. Oh well. at least i can type less painfully with it on. hopefully i will also be able to write a whole lot less painfully.

Gonna go play scrabble.

Ice is cheap. Some people will tell you ice is only worthwhile in the first two days after an injury, but I think they should chill out. Good luck. And pray for no snow.

Sorry you’re still in pain. =(

I’ve never been a big fan of finger braces…but all my fingers are broken-bent from a misguided personal theory that a band-aid holding that finger to the next one (broken, of course, not long ago) would work as well. What do I know?? Sorry it hurts. Mix up Tylenol with other drugs and you can take more.

*hugs*

*big hugs* know how all that goes…. sigh. hope the brace helps and everything… sometimes it *feels* worse in the beginning because it is new… your thumb isn’t used to the support. hope it heals quickly
