NoJoMo #5

It’s Friday! A day off from work! Thank the Lord!!

My day started out wonderfully. I met up with Kaleigh and Courtney for breakfast at First Watch this morning. I hadn’t been there before, but the food was super yummy, and pretty cheap too! And it was so nice to see the girls again. We don’t get to hang out as often as we’d like, since we all have such different schedules and live so far apart, so even though I am dead broke, I jumped at the chance to catch up. Breakfast itself didn’t take very long, and we just sat on a bench in front of the restaurant after we were done for a couple hours, catching up and chatting. I had a great time.

I don’t know if I mentioned it in my last entry, but I had an interview today. It was with a company that basically seems to have been hired by the ACTUAL company offering the job, as a way to screen potential prospects. Anyhow, the interview was set for 2:00pm. I was to meet with a man named Derek, at their offices, to discuss a patient care coordinator position at a pharmacy in Lake Mary, similiar to my last job. He told me what the pay rate was in a phone conversation earlier this week, and it’s less than what I’m making currently, but he mentioned that I had 3 years experience under my belt and seemed to think that could help me negotiate a higher pay rate, but said we could discuss it further today. So, at 1:50, I walked into the office building and headed to the suite where this company was located… only to find the office locked, and some of the lights off. I waited for a few minutes, thinking maybe someone had gone to the restroom or was out to lunch. At 2:00, there were still no signs of life from inside, so I called Derek’s direct line, and got his voicemail. I left a message that basically said, in a very professional manner, WTF, and walked out. I won’t be taking his calls again. That was highly unprofessional.

There was a shooting in downtown Orlando today. Six people shot in total, 5 of them injured, 1 confirmed dead. It was on the 8th floor of a high-rise office building, and the man who did it was a former employee who was let go two years ago. He apparently has, like, $89,000 in debt, and went from working in an engineering office (this company) to working at Subway. He later drove to his mom’s apartment, and hung out there until the police arrested him around 2:00 today. His own mother turned him in. She didn’t know what had happened at first, but she left to run errands, heard the news and the fact that her son was the suspect, and she called the police. He came quietly, they said, and he’s being interrogated. I turned off the news about an hour ago, and at that point they hadn’t heard anything as to why he did it. When he was being escorted into the police headquarters, though, they have video of him telling the press, "Because they left me to rot" when asked why he did it. Scary stuff. They shut down I-4 and a bunch of streets downtown while they looked for this guy, as well as put local schools and hospitals on lockdown. It was an intense few hours, for sure. My prayers go out to the families who were affected by this, especially the family who lost someone today.

Now I’m just hanging out at home. Stan’s downstairs sleeping at the moment, since he got up early for work today. I’m gonna go try to find something for dinner. Hope everyone has a good weekend!
