First Day – 03/25

This morning started nice and early. I woke up at 6:30am, and Stan got up 15 minutes later. We got ready and finished getting everything packed, then headed to a local parking lot to leave my car. It’s only $5 a day, versus $15 or more per day when parking at the airport. The shuttle took us to the airport, and we checked our bags and got through security pretty quickly. We had breakfast at McDonald’s, then went to the gate to wait to board. While we were waiting, this woman was sitting near us and kept dry-heaving into a garbage bag. The sound of it almost made me throw up. I can understand being sick, but please – go to the bathroom. We had plenty of time before the flight would board. Ugh. Anywho, the plane was a little late, but we got on board quickly and took off after. We made it to JFK on time, which was pretty amazing. We only had a little turbulence, which I know Stan was relieved at (he HATES flying). I must say I’m a fan of JetBlue’s in-flight entertainment. I hardly noticed the time because I was watching HGTV the whole time!

Once we landed, we got on the Air Train, which took us to the subway. It was only $7, which definitely wasn’t bad. We took the subway all the way to the city, because our hotel is right off Penn Station. It only took about 45 minutes to get there. Sweet! And, may I say, I enjoyed the subway. It was old, it looked dirty, and I realize it’s not always the safest place, but I thought it was cool. Anywho, we checked into the hotel, then came up to our room. Twenty-ninth floor. Crazy. Our view is limited to the side of the hotel, and a sliver of the city. The room is quite nice. Small, but nice. The décor is art deco, which is nifty. And the bed is SUPER comfy.
After we put our stuff away, Stan and I headed to Lindy’s for lunch 😀 Hello?? I had to do it. And Stan said he’s eaten there before, and they have good cheesecake. So we both got the lunch special, which was $15.95 for a sandwich (turkey for me, corned beef for him) with fries, a soda, and a slice of cheesecake. The sandwiches were super yummy, and the cheesecake was like a mini-orgasm on a plate.
After lunch, we walked down to Macy’s. Biggest. Store. EVER. Seriously. It’s ridiculous how big that place is. I have NEVER seen so many purses in my life. We walked around a bit, and found some stuff we will probably want to go back and get. Then we walked down towards Times Square. Wow! I can’t wait to see it at night. It was so big, so bright, so over-the-top… it made my head spin a little. We went into the giant Toys R Us, where we visited the Hot Wheels and Barbie sections, and also watched the Ferris wheel go around.
After that, we were both a little tired, so we decided to head back to the hotel to rest a little before dinner. We just laid on the bed and watched TV. I also played around on the internet a little, since the hotel has free Wi-Fi in the room. While we were relaxing, my mom called to wish us a happy anniversary and see how we were doing. Then we got ready and headed to dinner.
Dinner was at Keen’s Chophouse, at 8:30pm. They have the largest collection of churchwarden pipes, including some from some famous names like Albert Einstein, Theodore Roosevelt, Babe Ruth, and quite a few others. The place is just filled with history, and it looks like an old-school gentleman’s club – which is exactly what it was. Stan ordered crab cakes to start, and while I let him enjoy them, I did try them, and discovered I liked them. Then for our meals, I had the filet mignon, and Stan had the T-bone. Both were HUGE portions of meat, but God, were they tasty. The steak literally melted in your mouth. Stan also had a baked potato, which was also huge. This place is expensive, but well worth it. We skipped desert because we were both just too full.
After dinner, we went to the Empire State Building. We decided we’d enjoy it more at night. The views from the 86th floor were absolutely breath-taking. It was also freezing up there, but I had my coat, a fun hat, and my gloves. I took some pictures, and I looked through one of those binocular things and zoomed in on the Statue of Liberty. So cool!! Then we walked back to the hotel to turn in for the night. But not before Stan could get himself a hot dog and a pretzel haha J
I think I’m gonna go seduce my husband now. After all, it IS our anniversary!!
