We filed our taxes on the very last day, April 15th. It was a close call, but we got there. We ended up filing married but separate after all. As it turns out, we (read “I”) got back a couple hundred dollars more filing separate, so filling jointly would cause us to lose out. So, I got my way in the end. lol
 
My tax return is (calculating my tax return divided by her tax return…) 8.5 times more than her tax return. I’ve gone to great pains over the years to keep my tax process simple and to never to pay out at the end of the year. For me, pain free is worth the slightly lower wage over the course of the year. Agree or disagree, but that’s how I like it. Filing separate is part of that plan, so I’m happy about that.
 
Speaking of which, my son is STILL job hunting for a small part-time job. We all made a deal back in December that he would pay for his own car insurance, and that’s not happening yet. His mom is paying for it, and she doesn’t have the money. She’s the primary care giver, so it’s her responsibility. Actually, I asked her not pay for it until he got a job, because then he’d have motivation to get a job. However, she has refused my request. As it stands, he’s getting a free ride.
 
His mom is now “making” him job hunt every day. Because she’s very lax about such things, we’ll see how long that lasts. I made him apply at a golf course over the weekend (he was with me for the weekend). Hopefully he’ll hear back from them, but it hasn’t been good thus far with job hunting.
