A spoonful of sugar
I think I have to stop watching the news. I kind of want to watch, because I want to know what’s happening but it has a tendency to reduce me to tears if I watch too long. For the second year running there’s been an earthquake round Christmas time and the scenes of utter devastation on my TV are just too much to handle at times. I feel so utterly useless. I hope everyone on OD and their families are safe.
Christmas was lovely and quiet. Mary came round for the day for food and much laziness. Before she came over, me and Duncan exchanged presents. He bought me some Buffy books, a Peanuts cartoon book, the Lion King and The Stand miniseries on DVD, an REM t-shirt and a jar of Green and Black’s hot chocolate, which is yummy. I got him Bad Boys 2 and Spaced series one on Dvd as well as a stack of books including Charlie and the chocolate factory and 5 books from Piers Anthony’s Incarnations of Immortality series (he now has the full set). I also got some books and chocolate from the wonderful bookcrossers I know and some smellies from my mum and step dad. My dad got us a food processor and Niall got us a microwave (which was very unexpected!) My brother got us the Lotr Fellowship of the ring extended version on dvd as well. Not bad.
We went sale shopping on Monday and I spent more money on books. But the absolute bargain of the day was… my wedding ring! I found a gorgeous ring that I fell in love with which was 50% off in the sales and, by using the insurance vouchers, we only had to spend £20 on it. It is beautiful and I can’t wait to wear it. It’s safely hidden in the flat now and I just need to make sure it’s very much covered by the insurance. We have just over four months to go now and are starting to get the final things organised. I must admit to a very selfish moment as I watched the news of the tsunami. I was very worried about the Seychelles and, in particular, our hotel and the jetty where we are getting married. But after checking up, I’m pleased that there were no casualties on the island and no damage beyond a bit of flooding. Am I wrong to be a little selfish? I feel I was, but I couldn’t help it.
I’m gonna finish with the quiz that Mrs B requested I do.

I can’t help but watch the news and read about it online even though it makes me weep. I want to help so bad but I feel so helpless. 🙁
Warning Comment
I just don’t watch the news, I found out about the tidal wave through people talking about it at work….it is easier for me to be ignorant than an emotional mess…so I understand where you’re coming from! We do have a lot of things in common :)))) Thank you for doing it 🙂
Warning Comment
you forgot Canada! 😛

You and Marcus are ganging up on me! Okay, I’ve done it. JHave to say I did think about your wedding and wondered if it was all going to be okay. The news pictures are horrific – I’ve just donated to the fund, wish there was more I could do.

RYN: Yes, it is indeed Black Betty! Yay! And the band is Ram Jam. 🙂

I didn’t know your name before this. Weird.
