reality check – the knackered edition.
WHERE: lying on my stomach on my bed. I will regret this, my back will sieze up making for an achey manoeuvre soon. I’ve just put tally to bed who has had an exceptional tantrum after her first day back at school. She’s also worrying about having an operation to have grommits put in which I think may have a lot to do with the stroppy summer we’ve had.
WEARING: baggy t-shirt bought in Spain, tight combats and suede vivobarefoot boots. I still have my Womad wristband on and this weekend had my Silverstone Woodlands wristband added.
FITNESS UPDATE: having stayed stable all summer (at a higher weight than I’m happy with) I put 4lbs on this past weekend!! The plantar fasciitis came back with a vengeance after Spain so still no running but I’ve had my bike new-ified – it’s 20 years old and had hardly had any work done on it, I got new road tyres (the original mountain bike ones absorb too much energy in their nobbles making peddling hard work), new chain and cartridges and new peddle arms. It glides now 🙂
IN THE NEWS: we’re not going to bomb Syria – I’ve never believed in biting children who bite nor like for like violence as payback or for teaching a lesson. I was mildly inebriated in a shop in a tent in a field when I saw the headlines. It made me very happy.
READING: I have just finished el príncipe de la niebla by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. A story of adolescent friendship set around horror. It did remind me, a little, of It by Stephen King. I’m thinking of reading another of his books for youths soon.
ACTIVITIES TODAY: the first school run of the new school year, Lyf and Libby this morning and a trip to asda for school uniform. Just Lyf and I this afternoon so we did an almost three mile walk to the curly wurly bridge and back. It’s a footbridge over the nearby motorway and its fun to watch the cars and lorries go under. Lots of lorry drivers beeper and waved at him which made his day. And the footpath there is a smørgasbord at this time of year – blackberrys abound and he ate his fill (im not a blackberry fan) with gusto 🙂
We got back just in time for the school run and we had bffn’s kids over as she has started her new teaching job and Tuesday is staff meeting day.
THINKING ABOUT: my brain is a fuzz, thinking doesn’t seem to be happening. I have been browsing a home schooling website although that is only a rose tinted idea. I know how I would like my girls (especially tally) to be schooled but I also know that I can’t do it with the childminding and that they get a lot out of the external interaction. I just wish schools were able to employ more staff and give children education that fitted them instead of the one-size-fits-all approach which is all they’re able to do.
PLANNING: signing up for Spanish conversation classes, doing more maths. The november exam isn’t going to happen but the May one is do-able.
What I really want to plan is exploding out of this life and into another.
We have frequent visits to the ‘waving bridge’! It’s over the m1! .

Like someone recommended you the other day, I think “Marina” by Zafón is beautiful. A little sad but my favourite book by him (and I’ve read them all!). Buenas noches 🙂

I took the reality check format from Freyjah, Sofi nabbed it from me and ran with it and now I see it here 🙂 Impressive that you can read novels in Spanish!!

Can I be your neighbor? <3 Today was in-service for the teachers to prep their classrooms, I suppose. Tomorrow we meet Madame Joanne et Dragolimot! I wish Patrick didn’t start school the same time as Gabrielle… I’d like to drive her to her first day of school, but I can’t without him :/

I am so borrowing this format! And yes, you’re not bombing Syria. Apparently that’s going to fall to my country, because we’re the world’s hall monitors… :/

Ooh, hey. I guess it’s Wed the 4th for you now, but since it’s still Tuesday for me… apparently today is/was Welsh Rarebit Day. Who dedicated a day to cheese on toast, I don’t know but since it’s European and not Canadian, I had to run over to here and mention it 😀 Well, that and I’d never heard of Rarebit before… have you? O.o

I think school sets them up better for the reality of working life and life in general and ryn: The teacher denied it and pretended he didnt know what they were on about, lol

I like the idea of homeschooling too, I just know I am not the person who would be good at it, not thinking sometimes I think is a good thing, lol have a great day!!

I tend to lie on my front too, comfy at the time but my back hates me for it later!
